is this a good price?

What's up everyone. My mechanic gave me a quote of $400 for parts a labor to fix my A/C, which needs a new fan motor (I have a new harness already) and to replace my transistor. I think it's a little high, but I need it fixed ASAP, should I take the time to shop around? Or is that a good price? Thanks for your help.

I dont know - do you look that gullible?

seems WAY high to me - ck the DIY section -might be a motor replacement so you can see how little effort and tools required

its no more skill than changing the cabin air filter- which may as well replace while you are in there

a recent thread had price for fan motor- or look up online parts stores or acura sponsors here

you can BUY the tools for less than the labor-
He must be getting labor time from the acura book- where dealer gets 1.5 hours just on the cabin filter!! add more time for change fan and resistor = $$$$

Who is near Valley Stream NY- go DIY this for them please

Mine went out last week. They replaced the fan blower, and added the anti-freeze or whatever its called, im not really sure. Total was $450. So I could see 400 being slightly too much, but not crazy high

Huh? Do you mean an engine cooling fan- not blower motor?

yes lets clarify!!

you need the fan that goes behind the radiator? on the driver side?
and you have been having engine temp problems?

or the one for the inside of the car that works off the ac/heat fan switch control?

either way its a bendover price

No, it the blower fan motor and transistor, it has nothing to do with the engine, the car is not over heating, the car does not blow out AC or heat. Question, I know where the fan blower motor is but can someone possibly shoe me picture that show where the transistor is and how many screws hold it in place. Thanks guys, I think we should be clear now.

Thanks for your help, but I think what needs to be changed is the transistor, where is that located, I'm obviously not an expert but isn't there three components to the fan blower system, the fan blower motor, the resistor and the transistor? I need to replace the transistor and blower motor.

There appears to be some resistors on the transistor module, along w/ a fuse. Read this, it should help.

Some good pics too.
