i dont know if any of you have had this problem, but my 02 tl-s (automatic :/)has recently been acting up. Car starts fine, but when taking it out of park, it locks up, and and it wont let me move it down. So i have to unlock it manually with a pen. any fixes or experience on this?

Step on the brake and check if your brake lights work, if brake light doesn't come on, it your switch above the brake pedal.

 

to explain a little further:
If the system thinks the brake lights are not working the safety interlock on the shifter makes you do the manual override

you may have No brake lights if the switch at the pedal has become loose or failed

if the brake lights/switch are not the problem its the shift interlock switch
One of the trans gurus will explain that soon if needed

go ck your lights, have someone else hold the pedal down - dont trust them to know how many bulbs and where- plus the center brake light

ck the switch at brake pedal,,one is for brake lights, the other is cruise control disconnect

sometimes it gets loose but chances are its worn out

on main 2nd gen menu, 3rd item dow,,official diy list

of course ck fuses too
