Getting my transmission flushed next week for 99 TL-P

I'm looking to order the Honda ATF Z1 fluid online rather than buying it at the dealership. How many quarts should I buy for this transmission flush?

before the bashing begins:

how many miles on trans
changed fluid before??- at what interval

a 1x3 meaning drain and refill 3 qts (actually 3.4) 1 time--thats what acura says is a trans service
if you wanted to change out all of the fluid- for certain reasons-- needs 9-12 qts total
thats by 3x3,,= 3 drain and refill cycles with 3 qts each time
thats all the trans will give up of its 7.3 at one draining

the prob is how many miles on your trans and do you regularly do a 3 qt changeout every year or 2
If not- a full fluid change is begging for trouble
see the Tranny failure thread for details on failure of clutch packs after flush

Well I just bought this car and the transmission has 40k miles on it. The shop who diagnosed my car said I need a transmission service. So should I buy 12 quarts?

I would go with the 3 qts 1 time for now, see how it shifts and color of fluid looks
Thats a standard service per acura--the 3x3 is for IF you accidentally put dextron3 in-thats bad stuff and must be removed --therefore 12 qts to get rid of all traces

Some people do 3 qts every year or two and thats working well

Honda has a new atf so the zr1 may be disappearing from shelfs

does your guy know acuras? or based fluid service on what? color or bad smell, general need to get money from you,,
I would look at the ps and brake fluids before concerned of 40k on trans

What did the shop diagnose as the problem? Was the transm. acting up? Why did you take it to a shop for a diagnosis?

If you haven't bought it already, I would change my mind and order and put in Redline Synthetic ATF. It is compatible and made for our Honda/Acuras. My car has run and shifted a lot better since changing over. I bought a whole case of it when I got mine.
