Gears won't change until fully stopped

After getting a new transmission I noticed that when I had to stop from 30 - 0 at a light, the gears doesn't go down until about 5 mph because I feel the car jerking. I switched to SS just so that I can see which gear I am at and low and behold, it was on 3 while I was slowing to 10 mph. Is there something wrong with the new tranny or that I might be breaking too abruptly? I don't remember the old tranny doing that, but once I noticed it was on its way out, it was grandma mode for a few months...

Cool

Im pretty sure that is normal. and the SS mode will try to hold the gear, so thats not valid.

check the owner book
IN ss mode it will stay in 3rd until you drop to 15 mph then go to 1st by itself, figuring you forgot its in ss mode

Give the new trans 500 miles of easy drive- then another 500 of normal with some pushing it
Do test SS mode and make sure everythign works- just dont redline it or race it

If it is not smooth, or shifts funny- go back to the dealer and ask for the head tech to take a ride with you
That person diagnoses several of these a week/month and knows exactly how it should feel
The replacements have their own warranty plus the cars extended trans warranty still applies
Dealer is not out to deny or screw you over- sometimes a trans is bad- thats mechanical devices

What sort of sudden braking? ABS activated- shoved forward into the seatbelts type stop?
ABS will shake the brake pedal and really feel strange when active

Give the new parts a chance to mesh together- and if its still any question at all- go to the dealer- call and ask when is a good time for a quick test drive

Thank you all for the replies.

The tranny has been in the car for about 1500 miles now. When I break it was normal stopping in highway traffic, from 40 - 50mph slowing down to about 30's then full stop because the car in front of me 5 - 10 yards away stops. At first I would feel the car jerk while I am breaking so after awhile I wanted to see which gear I was at while breaking (that's when the SS mode came in, I would go back to auto mode after checking the gear and continue my breaking). I also tried to lower my gears in SS mode while breaking and the car didn't jerk at all...

stop by the dealer and ask for a test drive with the trans tech

It may be the `grade logic` feature working now, and your driving style accents it, or there could be a problem, - read the owner book for details
here is the free online link so no excuses!
https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp
click year, then TL,- wait for pdf file then move icon over index and click- there is the entire book for you as needed!!!
Usually if they have a defect, it shows in the first few thousand miles....so to the dealer you go

the downshift control senses what you are doing with throttle and speed, and if you are going to accellerate- it downshifts to 2nd- otherwise to save gas and wear,
Just slowing down- its not designed as a brake!!!-
so it stays in 3rd until a lower gear is needed- below ~15 mph (see your book for sure) then it drops down
Use the brakes as brakes- they are cheap compared to a transmission-
brakes are designed to slow the car- trans is designed to accellerate it
