Gauge Light doesn't come on

Ok, the light were the temperature, milage, travel milage and what not stopped working. How can i get that fixed? Also, when i dim the lights inside the the car, when i come to a complete stop around 5-0 mph and accelerated from 0-10 mph the lights inside the car flickers like crazy. What is causing those problems?

Posted some pictures about the light. It's hard to take pictures when the light is flickering...

My car is having the same problem. I have a 2000 model and been having it for 3 years now. Don't have the money to get it fixed yet. I wonder if you can buy the whole cluster at the junk yard and will that light work with it? keep me updated if u ever get it fix.

Yes you can buy a whole new cluster if you want. (junkyard or ebay) You can replace the bulbs too. that would be a lot cheaper and is pretty easy to do.

The part I hate about getting a new gauge cluster is the fact that you can't show off your mileage anymore.. I mean, I'm pushing 142k right now, I find it admirable to show that my car's lasted that long... definitely something to be proud of.. but then again, go find the new cluster showing an inaccurate reading... I mean hey, you never know.. if you find one that's for 50-70k and try to resell your car, the unknowledgable person buying it may pay more! hahah.. friend of mind did that once.. good shit.

i thought the mileage was in the computer, and not the instrument cluster itself. I have 73000 miles on mine and that would suck if i bought a new one at the junkyard and it had more. Is the voltage regulator in the cluster or in the dash?

The mileage is in the cluster.

If you really wanted to you could go to the dealer and they would enter the correct mileage into the replacement cluster. PITA if you ask me. Plus I think it gets entered into the vehicle history under your VIN that it is not the original odometer. How awful would that be if you wanted to sell it or trade it in? (I'm not sure about that one, but that is what I have heard)

If you look on ebay you can find clusters that are very close to your mileage and you won't have to worry about it.

Most likely you don't need a new cluster. Simply replacing the voltage regulator should suffice.

Where is the voltage regulator located? Better yet...are there instructions?

Its behind the gauge cluster. You can't miss it. It's a simple swap that should not require any instructions.

Follow the instructions here to remove the dash.

Hey gents,

I'm new to this site. I certainly appreciate all the knowledge provided by everyone.

I too am having the same issue with my 2002 TL. Only difference with mine is that I can still see the odometer reading and temp but it is very, very faint. You really have to look hard to see it. I suspect the issue is being caused by the same part mentioned above. Any thoughts?

Also, it appears that this part is not called a 'voltage regulator'. According to the part number in the picture, it is called a 'Print Panel'. Do you guys agree?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Anthony

well, since I got no replies back from anyone, I went ahead and purchased a nwe 'print panel' (a.k.a. voltage regulator) and replaced the original one with the new one. End result - I now have an odometer that illumintes again!

So, if anyone else is having a similar issue, simply replace this part (print panel) and you should be ok. It was fairly simple to do. Took me about an hour overall. Most of the time was spent trying to remove the front dash cover. Took my time so I wouldn't break anything.

This web site is awesome! Thanks to everyone for posting their advice on here. It's a tremendous help. It also saved me about $200 by not having to take the vehicle to the stealership.

Hey...just wondering how much does it cost? Did you buy this from the dealership?

Hi,

The part cost me $33.00 at the dealer. That was at the wholesale price though. Normal cost is about $40 I think. You can order direct from: http://www.acuraparts247.com/

Hope this helps!

Ok i got another problem with the guage. I've been slacking off and didn't change that print panel. Sometimes it comes on and off...the light. I was just wondering is there something else wrong with it, because i know it works sometimes.

I’ve browsed this forum off and on and it has been a great source of information. However, I have a couple of dash problems I’m hoping you guys can help me with.
I have a 02 TypeS with two issues. First, the clock is not lighting up when the headlights are turned on. Second, the gear indicator no longer displays anything when in auto. The indicator still works when in auto-stick.
Any ideas or thoughts are welcomed.

When you are in auto mode, the indicator is not supposed to show you what gear in.
Only when you are in SS mode. Or did you mean P,R,N,D5,D4,3,2, and 1 lights don't work?
for that, i don't know.

Gauge Light

I know you submitted this months ago but had a similar problem to find a small board within the instrument cluster had burnt out and once replaced, the odometer did illuminate. This should be easy to diagnose by any car repair shop and the repair was less than $200.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys but it turned out to be a couple of blown bulbs, one behind the clock and another behind the status display in the gage cluster. I could not find a 9.5v replacement bulb so I had to go to the dealer. What a racket...$7 a bulb..!!!
The worst part was getting the dash apart.

I am having a similar problem. The part of the gauge cluster that shows my odometer, temperature, and so on...is out. how do I know if I need new bulbs or if I need a new voltage regulator. Is there anyway to tell without just trying each out?

Thanks

There are NO bulbs related to this area. The problem is with your voltage regulator. Remove your instrument cluster and replace the voltae regulator. Here's a good link to help you remove the cluster.

Should take you about 45 mins if you take your time. Good luck.

Thanks for all of you help! I got the part from Maywood Acura in NJ. They couldn't wait for me to pick it up. They were dumbfounded as to how I had the exact part number and knew what it was.
Anyway, I fixed my dash. It took me about an hour. Hardest part was just prying apart the cover without breaking the tabs, and getting my hands behind it to unplug all the connections.
Thanks again
