Fuel and temp gauge not working

Hey guys. Yesterday I bacame a proud owner of a 2000 tl. I noticed this morning as i was driving to work the gas light came on though the needle was reading half a tank. I pulled into a gas station and filled it up, turned the car back on and the light was off but the gauge still read half a tank. Any input guys? BTW this is the best forum i've seen everything is easy to find great job guys

you can test the temp guage by putting its hot wire to ground

how much gas did it take to fill?

you ckd the coolant and oil levels?

welcome to the forum

some background will help us--is the car clean title- not salvage or rebuilt title after being in a hurricane flood?

private seller? or used car dealer
any history you were given on the car for maitenance or problems?

call acura and register as new owner, ask if all recalls are taken care of
1 800 382 2238x5 for usa cars

I topped it off. It was pretty much empty. Oil levels and coolant are ok. What i did notice though is even with the car off the temp is at the same reading even after sitting overnight.

I bought the car at a used car dealership. Tested it no problem. I did see the gas light on but the guy told me it could be the gas cap not sealing right. I have not checked the vehicle history though. Im calling Acura right now and checking the recal history though. Thanks for the advise.

So I called Acura. They informed me the vehicle met transmission recall. i asked about any recalls on the fuel gauge, they haven't heard of any. I carfaxed the vehicle its a clean title. So this is where I'm at. Any suggestions.

how many gallons did it take was my question..to see if guage is wrong

the low fuel warning light comes on at 3 gallons remaining of 17.3 total,,
of which about 16.7 are useable (most I ever put in my car when dead empty and still running)
gives you 50 miles to find your brand of gas --the TL likes name brand tier 1 quality,,most major names qualify and some minor names

you can assume the car was sitting for a while and run 1 can seafoam thru half tank--reset your trip meter at fillup and add product at 150 miles

there may be gunge in the mechanism for the float, hopefully that will clear it out for you, and works as tune up in a can

Maybe the temp. sensor is kaput. I would get that fixed right away. Engine temp. is very important. See if the dealer you bought it from will fix it, or maybe split the cost w/ you.

I took your advise and called the dealer this morning. they told me to bring it over to take a look at it, hopefully the can cover the charges. I've heard you have no real room for error when going with the seafoam. As far as gas quality premium tier 1 is all i use. the engine had a bit of knocking when i had it the first few days. It's running a lot better after the fill up.

its really hard to eff up seafoam on the TL, but
If you have concerns with the vac port method- thats ok
Per seafoam tech guy Jim D.
2 tanks gas at CLEANING DOSE- thats 2 oz per gal of fuel, will do more than the vac port will
that includes cleaning the entire fuel line and injector system, which does crud up,
gets fuel sock, cleans and lubes the fuel pump,,

to save a bit of money, I would try 2- half tanks,, with 1 can in just under half tank- thats 8 gal w/ 16oz can of foam

this stuff really is tune up in a can

sounds easy enough with your instructions. Once the gauge problem is sorted i might try my hand at it and give the system a well needed clean I get a feeling the previous owner wasnt as kind to it as I am.
