Front struts

So, I found the knocking on the front end. It seems it is better to purchase and replace the strut/coil spring assembly as one unit as apposed to just purchasing and replacing the strut. . I don't understand but the front end is 100 time better.
Here is my question, do I need a front end alignment just because I replace the strut assembly's or is it just recommended? The car drives straight doing the road. Not pulling to either side

yes, any time you mess with suspension it is advised to get an alignment.

With the cost of alignments now, I would certainly recommend a lifetime alignment if you can find a shop that offers it. I picked one up from Firestone, I think it was about the cost of two alignment jobs; but I've already taken it back for when I replaced my rear control arms, and once more when I replaced my tie rods. Totally worth it!
