Front Hub

I got a diagnosis done on my car, and they mentioned I also needed a wheel bearing and hub replaced on the right front. I got a print out from AllData, seems easy enough. I'd have to take it to a shop to get the hub pressed out though. Anyone have experience with this? How long would it take a moderately skilled DIY'r?

My biggest problem right now, no one sells the front hub! Not Napa, Autozone, O'Reilly's.... What's up with that, Aucra parts only???

Yes, but I'm being told the hub needs replacing also. Is that part only available from the dealer? Thanks for the link on the DIY. Great info there!

I don't understand why the hub would need to be replaced, unless they don't think that they can get the bearing out without damaging the hub.

Yep... or, are one or more of the holes for the lugs messed up, or the splines maybe?

Where did you find it online? I have a 99.

I was told at the local Napa/machine shop that it's possible the shop quoted replacing it because they didn't want to mess around with it.. just use new parts... IDK I didn't want to tear it appart, and need it... And have the car waiting for a part.

Some possibilities; on lots of cars the front wheel bearing is serviced as a "hub and bearing assembly". So it might be a terminology problem. Another; it's easier to do the job if you don't have to pull the inner race off the old hub. Lastly, the bearing can spin on the hub and ruin it. I've never seen this on a honda, usually ford products, but they might be "diapering". [covering their ass ahead of time]

www.acuraoemparts.com - Approx. $46 for a '99. Did you search online?

I have taken a knuckle (from a different car) to my local Napa. They removed the old bearing & reinstalled the new one.

That's a good point, I think I'll pull the wheel off, probably have to take the brakes off too; and look at the rotor. The shop must have seen something to recomend a replacement hub. If it looks ok, then I'll just move forward with just a bearing replacement. Thanks for all the insite guys!

Good luck, let us know why they think you need a hub.

The shop most likely just didn;t want to mess with the pressing in/out of the bearings...New hub is ready to go.

The shop probably didnt know that on this car the bearing and hub are not one piece like many cars. There is no reason to replace the hub. Buy the bearing, have a shop press out the old bearing from the knuckle and hub and press the new one on.

No, the hub does NOT come with the bearing.
