Motor Mounts
Whats up guys, so I get my oil change done and my mechanic looks over all the car. He then tells me that 3 motor mounts are done (Front, Rear, and Side mounts). He also mentioned that my right and left upper control arms were also trashed. I was wondering if there is a cheaper way to get these parts? Should I go all OEM or go with any aftermarket parts. Can you guys let me know what will be the best thing to do in my case. Thanks in advance.
OEM motor mounts are garbage and will usually last 10-20k only. I started reading a thread about aftermarket mounts being made for our car. They are supposed to go in to production soon. I think XLR8 will vend it eventually, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the info, my friend told me about innovantives mounts. He said they are really good. I just went to there site and did not see anything about our cars. Maybe I will give them a call.
People say 10-20k but mine have lasted longer. I have only changed mine once, 2 the front and side were done at a different time from the rear. I have had my car since 39k and now I am at 250k. Maybe they are trashed by now but I don't see a difference. I am looking to getting the newer ones but until they are available how many options are there??? Not many..
solid poly mounts remove all traces of smooth from the TL!!
the front and rear OE are fluid/oil filled and most years are vac boosted to stiffen on throttle
cost 120 each approx-varies- ck our sponsoring vendor dealers for better price--as low as 85 has been seen
Aftermarket often lack the vac boost..can plug the lines if you go that way
the pass side is ~50 and is normal rubber type
control arm bushings- acura sells the entire arm!! makes it fast and easy profit for their techs
buy aftermarket arms or pay to have bushings `pressed` at a machine shop on yours--they dont just drop in

if the local parts store sells the motor mounts buy it from them same with the control arms do you really think there are multiply suppliers for the part? sorry usually one for these types of parts, low volume, low mark-up parts
The innovative mounts that were made for the car were garbage and very problematic. The stock mounts are typically good for 50k if you drive any bit hard. If you drive like a normal person you will probably get more. And id get a 2nd opinion on the rear. They usually dont fail nearly as quick as the fronts.
I was under the impression that someone was making new motor mounts for TL/CL. It wasn't the problematic innovative mounts. They have been in dev for many years, and are being released very soon.
Maybe I dreamed up the whole thread. IDK anymore.

They are supposed to be in development, but it is taking a very long time. Your best bet right now is to buy new OEM mounts and window weld/poly fill them.

Thanks man, yeah thats what I might do, I spoke to the vendor and they said they should be ready in a month, $300 for all 3. I also got a quote for all 3 OEM mounts for $324. So I might just go OEM on the mounts and then look for the after market upper control arms. I dont drive to aggressive, more on the normal side. Thanks for all the help. Loving this site.

He was WAY off on his 10-20k statement. 50k is more like it when driven hard. And it is usually the front that goes first, once that wears out the side goes.
Don't think so. Defective seatbelts are covered for the life of the vehicle but motor mounts are covered under the powertrain warranty. I called Acura before I had my front motor mount replaced. Off the top of my head, my 05 warranty was 4 yrs/50,000 mi., so I had to pay for mine (61,000 mi.). I believe in 06 the powertrain warranty increased to 6 yrs/70,000 miles.
Just curious as to what the going life of OE motor mounts are...my TL-S has 108,000 miles on it, the front is shot for sure, and the side is highly likely going out as well. Not too sure about the rear. Heavily debating on going w/ Excelerate's mounts....
I made a wrong statement previously in the thread about the OEM mount life. Their actually more like 70k-80k. It can vary depending on driving style.
Yea, your front is most likely out. You can tell if the engine is moving excessively. Most people have been saying the XLR8 mounts are great. Still, I would consider leaving the rear mount as OEM. I think that a stiff rear mount causes vibration.
I'm most likely going to try the XLR8 mounts, as mine are shot to hell.

I ended up getting all my mounts OEM, I got them for about $324. With shipping. I am sure XL8 mounts are just as good I just did not want to wait.
@Carbuff, I'm referring to the harder bushings in Excelerate's mounts. The softest available are still harder than OE's...and 70k-80k is too low to spend $300+ on.. If I'm spending that much on mounts, I'd like them to last into the 100k mark. The unfortunate thing is that I don't even know when my front one went bad....I did buy the car used with 77k and now it's at 108k.

you need to test and see what it really needs
most years have vac boosted front and rear mount- have to look to know
most people find the front mount bad when trans dies around 60-100,,the first time a tech who knows to look for the oil traces from front and rear mounts cks them-
its a major labor savings to do front when trans is removed (hopefully under warranty)
diy under 2 hours--shops charge about that on front
pass side goes after taking broken fronts load a long time- 30 minutes labor,
do that one as preventative maitenance with timing belt for labor savings
rear,,dont know time--would be odd to break all 3 and not know it
there are 2 additional trans mounts you rarely hear about
ck our diy threads, most have diy labor times you can use as a guide

Just spoke to Joshua at Excelerate and the bushings ARE interchangeable, meaning you can swap out the hardness as your needs change. I forgot what price, but I think he said around $30-40 each bushing...
