Foam in coolant?

Any idea what this is? No over heating issues or problems but I'm concerned with the foam lol

Perhaps your last oil change used a strong cleaning detergent ? Doubt it, but...
How does the oil appear ? Any white smoke from the exhaust ? How's it running ?

If the coolant is milky and foamy, chances are that ya have a leaky head gasket, IMO.
Have the cooling system pressure checked and perhaps a cylinder leakdown test.

Thanks for the response. The oil looks fine. Would the head gasket cause any noticeable problems? I've driven the car on a 3 hour trip recently and the temp gauge never goes above 2 ticks below half and it drives fine.

Could possibly be just a minor leak starting to develop ?
Is there only some foamy residue on the rad cap opening or is the coolant also discolored and foamy ?
Best to get it checked before it may get worse. It'll put your mind at ease to know for sure.

Yeah the coolant looks fine, but I guess I'll get it looked at sometime soon to be safe. Thanks again

Is your coolant at the right fill level? If it's not quite full it could be getting all mixed around frothed up with air, imo.

Actually I checked the overflow resevoir thing and it was empty. So maybe that's it? I filled it to halfway now so we'll see if that does anything

Either head gasket or radiator is leaking motor oil or transmission fluid into the coolant. Hope it's just the radiator...
Watch your oil and AT fluid levels.

The '03 TL's didn't have a tranny cooler, the '99 models with the older 4 speed AT's were the last to have an AT cooler from the factory.

The best thing to do if one suspects a leaking head gasket is to have the cooling system pressure checked and perform a cylinder leakdown test.

There's no AT fluid cooler built into the radiator? I thought my 01 CL had it...

I'm revising my diagnosis to say that the foam could just be the result of low coolant, so let's hope for that!

Hey Tosh, the CL models with the inline 4 cylinder had an AT tranny cooler, but I'm unsure of your CL-S with the V6.

I'll bet ya wish ya had the 6 speed stick, huh ?

I'm away from my precious Amber, so I can't check.

Conceptually I like the the mechanical simplicity of the stick (like my 90 Legend coupe), but these days I am grateful for my lazy auto 80% of the time. And nowadays knowing an Accord or Odyssey AT swap is a real option, I can sleep again!

That coolant looks really discolored, in my opinion. Doesn't look like the blue coolant or green prestone. Are you using the orange long life coolant?

I'm using a yellow colored one, so it's not too discolored. But I still haven't been able to get anything checked since I've been busy but I'm still not having any over heating issues so I'm hoping it's something easy/small

I'm thinking that it was foamy due to it sucking in air while there was nothing in your reservoir.

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking it was too. I checked for all problems I could like checking the oil cap for a milkshake substance, checking oil for evidence of coolant, looking for bubbles coming out of the radiator, and watching for overheating. So far I've found nothing. I think I'll flush the system and see how it goes from there
