Error code 1457??? HELPPPPPP!!!

I have this error code 1457 on my 1999 acura TL for the last 8 months. The car runs fine...no issues . ITs about the time to have it fixed as it wont pass the emmisions test with check engine light on.

Took the car to autozone. The scanner reads error 1457-> Auxiallry emmisions controls.
The guy then used a different pocket sized scanner and it still came up with P1457. He then mapped this code with a data base in his computer and told me that its "Failed to create vaccum in the tank" .
I am confused. can anybody tell me which one is true? And yes I did turn the gas tank cap atleast 10 clicks!!!

Quick OBD II lesson...

Any code beginning with P1xxx is a manufacturer specific code. A generic OBD II scanner will not have these definitions in it and will pretty much be useless.

By cross referencing in his database it appears that he got you to the right cause for the code. Your gas cap. You only have to tighten it 3 clicks (not 10).

They have one way valves in them that sometimes do go bad. Replace the cap and wait about a week. The light will go off on its own. If it doesn't, you may have emissions problems elsewhere.

BTW - this should be covered by your federal emissions warranty which is something like 8 years 80k +/-.

thanks fla for the reply. I did some search on forum and it seems like this error code is going to be difficult to diagnose There seems to be a confusion about what this code is about. some people say its the gas cap...some say its the canister valve or something? could you or someone on this board direct me to the right direction to resolve it. what prelimanry steps can I take to solve this. plugs? egr?

My friend had this error and has the same car as me (3.2 TL). We took off our gas caps and compared them. At the bottom of the cap (the part that goes in towards the tank) there is a small hole, probably about ¼" big with another piece of plastic inside of it. He put a drill bit into the hole to push the plastic back and it seemed to move fine. He then tried it on his and it seemed to pop back the first time and then move freely after that.

We started his car back up with his gas cap back on but the check engine light was on. After he drove for about 3-4 minutes his light clicked off and hasn't been on since.

Thats all i can ofer on that situation. Good luck to ya!

I have a 99TL with the P1457 code since 2 months now. During a research for a solution, I noted that when fill up the tank at any gas station, soon as the pump handle trigger realeased by itselt (stop puping)....there're an amount of gasoline (quite a lot) trip off and onto the wheel. I tried the 2nd time later at diif. gas station and same result...Please tell me if that involes with the P1457 code!
So far I havent done any thing yet.
Thanks.

I read a lot forum about this code and thinking also about the canister like you said. At least I knew what part of the car caused this problem. I brought to Acura before and when they mentioned about required a lot of time for diagnostic, starting under the hood with $92/hr...I refused.
I'm planning to bring it back to dealer again and this time I will have them focus more on the problem area.
I will update this forum later, it's so dangerous to drive with the peel of gasoline like this.!

Update: for those who interesed, It has 2 bad fuel valves (Rear end). TT Cost is about $350 and 1yr warr. This will take off the P1457 code.

P1457 stands for "Large evaporative system leak" (p1456 is small and is usually just the gas cap). With the p1457 code it can be anywhere from solenoids in the evap system to a torn vacuum line. P1457 codes can be a major PITA to figure out (unless of course you can just visually see a line loose by your evap canister). I would reccommend first, force it clear, if light returns, go to a dealer and pay the diagnostics.

I already did reset the code, unfortunally it comes back after arround 60mi of driving...I knew some serious need to be attention to my TL.
Believe or not it has been a week now and my TL is still at dealer, they tear it off and found out the valve is out of their stock.(!@#@#^&*)

Updated: Bring my TL back to dealer after 3 days and 60mi of drive, the CEL come back on and same code.
Another 2 days waitting with their loan MDX. They found a sensor ring (?) was bad and replaced. Yes the problem's under warr (12/12K), cost $0.00.
I drove it for 2wks and 200mi now... before I post this update. it seems like the P1457 code is gone. Oppfff.

I just had this done on my car, it was the evap canister, its outside of the gas tank, under the car, and if you live where they use salt on the roads it can eat out your lines / or keep your cylinder open for the evap canister, it was 450 at the dealership to get fixed.

sorry to dig up an old thread, but I'm getting this damn code now too. I've cleared it with my scan tool a couple times now. My car is running fine, but does seem a little sluggish. Can someone give me a DIY to replace the evap canister? I'm ot paying the dealer $450 to replace a $57 part.
