Engine Looses Power While Driving
Hey Everyone,
I have a 01 CL-s and every now an then when I'm driving the engine just looses power. all the lights on the dash remain on, the turn signals, headlights and radio work just no power to the engine The power steering also locks up. If I pull over, wait a minute or so the car starts back up with no problem. I thought it was a battery at first so i replaced it but it continues to happen. Any Ideas? my car is stock except for a Kenwood radio. no aftermarket subs or anything.
Thanks for any advise you can give. I have an appointment with the dealer next Tuesday but I'm hoping it's something I can fix myself.

My guess is that your engine temperature sensor is probably faulty.

Same Issue's 1999 TL
Hello I have a 99 TL. Mine is doing the same thing any help would be greatly app. It started about 3 months ago just sparatic, Now its doing it a couple times a week. Tonight it did it 2 times about an 1 and a half about and the car sat for over 45 min. I called my mechanic but he snt an acura expert and said that he hasnt heard of this issue, And unless it does it while their he cant trace. I am totally lost on this. The car is stock. has 107k and I did the plugs over 7k miles ago. The a/c is running usually when it does it not sure if it makes a differance. I thought it was because the a/c was on max before but today it was set at 75. So I am confused.

stop driving it now. Odds are it is overheating. if you keep driving it you could blow a head gasket and really f it up. Contact A QUALIFIED MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY. you may want to consider getting it towed there.

Thanks for the info
Ok great I will do that today. Thanks a lot. I did notice though when it happens the Temp gauge is at about 180, But I will get in touch with an acura service place and see what they tell me. I hate that they always tell you they have to see it do it. I know their are others out their that have this car and probabaly have expeianced this.
So do you think it could be the water pump time? or is it another thing that is probably causing this. Any input is greatly app.

Has your idle speed been varying or maybe on the low side ? Perhaps the ISC valve is the problem, or maybe a clogged EGR. Either could cause your engine to stall at low speeds. Also, I had a Honda Accord that would randomly "die", .....turned out to be a faulty ignition switch. Ya never know about those electrical gremlins when fed on high voltage. Good luck man !

my car overheats and I get detonation and then the engine retards the timing which appears like its shutting off. Problem starts when I sit fir sevearl min with AC on. I dont get the cool air flow from driving so it over heats. Yesterday was the first time I saw the needle go up really high. Most of the time its hotter and I know it becuse once I drive and the air flow comes in the problem goes away shortly. YOU can test by putting AC on full blast with car idling for 20 min or so. I dint know if its the thermosat or water pump but I am going to change both. I think I will go with the temp sensor and fan switch from Mugen so it kicks on sooner. Truth is with the blower on , it may run hotter normally.
