Engine knocking?
Engine knocking?
Whenever I start my car up in the morning....temp is about 45F as it's parked underground....I hear some engine knocking.....
minimal knocking...but still noticeable
any suggestions on how I can correct this?
I believe it happens only when the car is cold...however during the day I don't pay much attention when I start it up as I just want to get home

does it happen any other tiem then when your engine's cold? did you fill up on 89 or lower octane gas recently? First thing I would do is check my oil then run some octane booster with some 93 to advance timing back to normal or a little higher and clean out that crappy low grade fuel or possible condensation.
I am not sure if the guy before me used low octane gas...but since I have owned the car...about 2 months now...i've filled up with nothing less that 91 octane...sometimes 94....
my oil level is great...on the dipstick..the oil actually exceeds the second marker by a bit.... what i mean is, usually there are 2 markers on the dipstick...one to show min oil level and one to show max...it exceeds the max by a bit...but I don't think that would be a problem?

Knocking for a few seconds right on startup, then all of a sudden it's gone?
That might mean oil is taking a while to get everywhere.
A thinner weight oil (lower number) will pump quicker when cold, but 45 isn't that cold.
If the car has high mileage or was driven hard, it could just be worn. It'll probably be fine for a long time (50-100k miles) if you only hear it on startup. It's getting bad when you hear it all the time at idle.
Fsttyms1, chime in here if you have a different opinion.
Thanks!
