Engine failure
Engine failure
Hi,
I bought an Acura at 143K miles. The engine was working like a clock.
Yeterday, all of a sudden, while driving on the highway, there was a tremendous noise. So, I stopped and towed the car to the mechanic. After the incident, the low oil light is always on.
Today, my mechanic told me that the engine died
He told me that oil is full, but there are metal pieces in the oil. So, the pistons and valves do not work properly.
He mentioned possible to reasons: Either timing belt slipped or oil pump did not work.
He is talking about rebuilding the engine or getting one from junk yard.
Any idea, experince, cost estimate would be greatly appreciated.

Ouch
I suspect the timing belt based on your 143k miles, coz some people even on this forum still drive on original timing belts past that mileage when it is recommended that it be changed at 105k miles or 7 years whichever is earlier.
Previous owner probably sold it because it is a 'pricey' maintanance task and messed you up in the process.
A used engine from a junk yard would probably be your cheapest, easiest, and more reliable fix

maybee 400 LBs ???
buy a motor. a rebuild is more expensive. and this time, change the timing belt on the motor.
rules of buying a honda
new t belt
new water pump
valve adjust
tranny drain and fill (not a vacuum flush from a 10 minute place)
check balljoints and bearings
oil change
compression check
