Is the key fob involved in any of this, or is it happening manually?

Do it via process of elimination.
1)Keep the key fob out of range/ take the battery out.
2)Somewhere under the dash on the passenger side is the unit that controls this type of activity.

Report back after step one.

I have a 06 TL & the door locks are acting up. Here's what happens. After the car is started, open the door & then close it. The locks lock, then unlock, then finally lock. I almost got locked out the first time this happened as I started the car & then got out to clear snow off. Fortunately I had rolled the driver window down before getting out as I had learned my lesson about leaving a running car with windows closed years ago. Does anyone know why this door lock thing is happening. Its intermittent too.

Do you know if he has a remote start or an aftermarket alarm system ? My father inlaw's Altima does that all the time after he had a remote start system installed 7yrs ago. he got himself lock out quite a few times, but the remote start is always working.
