I think d5 has too many features that overheat the tranny or w/e

d5 requires too many shifting which overwork the tranny....adding manual gear features to a automatic car is never a bright idea.

 

no, it won't save you. also, the 3rd gear clutchpack set is the real problem, that fact that it has extra gears isn't the issue. if the tranny is going to go it will go. there is nothing you can do but change the fluid regularly. sorry.

 

 

Nothing you do will prolong it short of never driving the car. You need to understand how transmissions work before you can start making assumptions. Having 5 gears isnt the cause.

 

i'm a newbie at the car mechanic level so bare with me. I am trying to learn more about cars tho..i got spoil b/c my pops love working on cars and he always fixed my car troubles.

 

no problem man, we all begin somewhere. but to recap, the real problem that's causing the failures is a materials issue related to the 3rd gear clutchpacks. installing a tranny cooler or babying it or driving it like you stole it won't affect the outcome in the end. if it's going to fail, then it will fail.

the last batch of revised trannies from February of 05 have proven to be 99% defect free so far (? can't remember if it's 05 or 06 right now, maybe someone can help me out), so even if your tranny fails then you may be ok with the new one.

of course it's not guaranteed that your tranny will fail either. many people have original transmissions with high mileage.

this new info gave me some peace of mind. Its not safe having your stall on you on the highway going 55mph+
