Dead Battery

My son has a 2000 Acura TL. the trunk release recently broke and the trunk would not close. He first tied the trunk down with a strap which worked, however the battery kept dying. I removed the electric trunk release from the latch and the trunk closed and the latch locked, but the battery would still die. I replaced the battery about a week ago, now the new battery is dying as well. Does anybody have any ideas what is going on? I am assuming something is still on after the car has been turned off bu have no idea what it is.

Like, you, we wont know what the cause of the battery drain unless we take a look at the vehicle in person.

do you have a voltmeter ?
have you tested the alternator?

The alternator is good. The car was fine until the trunk release broke. I do not have a voltmeter

Welcome to Acurazine!

A battery dying could be the alternator. If you can take it to a battery plus or auto zone they might be able to tell you more especially if you don`t have a volt meter hanging around. It`s obviously not the battery.

you're going to have to trace/chase what you pulled out from the trunk with a voltmeter to find any inconsistencies in voltages.

Last thing I can think of is to look at the neg. and pos. terminals. Follow them down to the grounds and see if they are frayed or loose.

with the trunk open does the trunk light come on? If so, with it closed look thru the pass thru and see if the light stays on or is off.

Thanks for all of your replies.

two things
1. The light in the trunk is not coming on.
2. The cable was loose around the positive battery terminal

did you tighten the battery terminal cable back up?!

a loose battery cable terminal will sometimes, momentarily disconnect, and you lose power.

make sure there isnt any corrosion on the leads and tighten back up and see if the battery is still dying.

I have not been home yet to tighten the cable, there is no corrosion on the terminals.

When you find a solution report back, somebody might be able to benefit from the it.

Just a few questions.
Does the battery light on the dash come on when your about to start the engine ?
Anything aftermarket installed in the car ? Like radio or remote start system etc.
Do you use the factory alarm ? if so does it beep when locked twice
