Damn oil leak... 02

Okay, I have had an oil leak for about 2 months now and i can't for the life of me get it fixed...

Rear main seal has been replaced? Check.

Oil pan sealant replaced? Check.

I have gone under the car and It looks like the seam that driver's side of the oil pan connects to what I assume is the motor...

And it is most certainly not trans fluid. I went through that mess already, and it is not that.

Please help me Obie Wan, you're my only hope...

Also took off the inspection plate a week after the rear main seal was replaced and there was nothing. Clean. No oil. In the second picture the oil came from that joint part at the top middle of the picture and ran down and back to the inspection plate and the trans...

This is really pissing me off...

ck the oil pressure sender
there have been a few leakers recently and you know how probs come in sets!
At full oil pressure spraying out a tiny place- its going to spread everywhere and at a high rate of speed

thats my best guess,, unless the block is cracked
run over any major curbs and drag the car along it 50 feet recently??
(actually saw SUV do that on new lane divider concrete-- drove dead center on top of it and dragged down it until the vehicle ~stopped/stuck firmly on~ just feet short of the end)

no need to get pissed off- its just bolts and parts,,dont let it beat you~

Judging from the oil staining in the picture i would be looking UP. It looks like its running down the pan and onto that seam.

I'll take some pics after work. I have been under the car 3 times this week, and today will be number 4 lol. My good camera is charged and i'll try to get a few better pics.

That seam is the highest place the oil goes. Only 3 options in this are;

1: The crank is worn. (mechanic threw that option out there, but I'm not 100% on whether i belive that or not)

2: Crack in the block. (I haven't noticed motor roughness or anything yet...)

3: The plate in this picture needs to be re-sealed. The leak is at the front of the motor and after removing the inspection plate, the internals were clean, leading me to believe that maybe it is pooling up at the bottom left of the plate. (I have no idea what to call said plate, but the Rear Main Seal and crank are visible in pic)(I have never done this and doubt I will be doing the work.)

I was mostly kidding about the curb riding--hence the red ink to indicate sarcasm~
there were no obvious scrapes in your pics~

please buy 2 cans citrus scented gunk engine cleaner (trust me on the citrus-plain gunk smells baddddddd during burnoff) follow directions and rinse gently!!!

then with spotless clean engine, have friend hold rpm at 2000 while you watch with a flashlight
thats how we found a mystery leak on my bike,,5 minutes of rpm and it finally seeped out a corner

what are you showing in last pic?
front crank seal may be leaking- thats always possible and not too bad a fix
You have new engine rear main, so if its leaking the shop is liable to replace it again

Totally lol'd at the sarcasm (i got you).

That pic is borrowed from google images. It is the "plate" where the crank sits. The lower left bolt is where the front of the car and the seam where the oil is coming out. I was told that there is a posibility that the plate needs to be re-sealed.

Is that a posibility?

yes, you can run the car while on jacks, just be careful keep it in park and have parking brake on. you shouldn't starve the engine from oil or anything, just be careful most people dont recommend it since it can be dangerous. but iv done it and never had problems.

99.9 % of oil leaks in the areas of the pic above are rear main seals. Its possible your new seal got damaged during replacement. Your best bet is to degrease the underside and every where oil is really well then drive it for a while (not rainy days or thru car washes) and see if you can get a better pin point of the leak.

Dan, if you have the same thing as me it is going to be your Rear Main Seal (RMS). I replaced mine but I guess the crank has some slight wear and I have to drop the transmission and place a sleeve on the crank and replace the RMS again.

Crank sleeve part #93315

When I called Acura they had no idea about this part and said that it is only the rear main seal that needed to be replaced. Well, I did that already and it is still leaking... so this is my next step.

I have to drive leaking till the end of the month but whatever, It'll get done.

and he said not to worry about it----becuz i had my car stored for the winter---he said to just drive it and it might seal itself back up

becarefull with the speedy sleeves sometimes you have to have the journal turned down on the crank first or you have to get an oversized seal that matches the OD of the speedy sleeve.

It's very common to sleeve a seal journal, the seals can wear grooves in the journal and just replacing the the old seal with a new one does not correct the problem, yes it's annoing having the oil leak but if it is minimal live with it until it gets bad because it can be a little hard to fix than one might think.

the journal is the technical name of the surface that the seal and bearing ride against, it's a heat treated and polished surface on the crank. OD stands for Outside diameter.

Yes its expensive to do. The part is 10 bucks. The rest is labor because they have to remove the trans to do it. Its rare that your motor (J32A1) has it. It is more common in the J32A2 (type-s) motor for some reason.

rare does not mean never happens,,
often suggested on here that you pay for it to be done when trans is out --on warranty replacement

could have been a lousy installation when it was replaced, or problem with the seal area

that short monthly engine running times you did over the winter may have contributed but can say for certain..if you need a reason use that~

If its dripping its more than a little issue. Dan, are you sure its coming from the rear main? Did you take off the inspection cover and see? or is it coming from somewhere else?
