Exclamation D5 Blinks constantly

I bought a 2003 Tl-p with 77k miles. It runs perfectly, no gear slips, loss of power, just runs smooth and normal. A while ago the D5 Light started to constantly blink, even when i shit it to reverse, 4th, 3rd 2nd...
I know that the D5 blinks when it in tip-tronic mode but its supposed to stay solid in automatic.
Anyone know what this blinking D5 means? Tranny problems? Again the car runs perfectly and doesnt seem to have any problems.

The light isnt supposed to blink in SS mode. There is something wrong. It could be any number of things. You need to bring it someplace to have the codes read. We can further help you once you get us the code. Most auto parts stores will read them for free.

Welcome first of all, D5 usually means transmission but then again, it doesn't have to. Get your car registered under Acura and see the history behind the car.

And yea, see if you can pull up some codes at a auto store!

its not supposed to blink unless there is something wrong with it. Most Auto Parts stores do it for free.

BOOYAHHH! I registered my acura and found out that i am covered under an extended warranty (7 years/100k miles). The D5 Blinking is found to be NOT normal and they say to call my local acura dealer! Right now im really relieved that i wont have to pay for the costs of this.
Im hoping i can just drop by and have them swap out any defective parts and be up and running with a new trans.

Welcome to the forum
Do some reading and learn all about the things your trans does
like when attempting downshift at too high rev-speed for lower gear selected,
the gear number asked for will blink 3 seconds then display current gear

Anything else is a trip to the dealer-- swap parts lol do some reading

OK after i went to the Acura dealer, they said my warranty got canceled because the car got salvaged in 2004. I had the codes read and they came up with a car idle code: P0505 and a Transmission tempearture sensor code: P0710.
Any ideas on how to fix these?

Did you know this car was salvage title when you bought it- that has to be disclosed- since it does void all warranties on the car.

Where is our code expert today?

If you took it to the dealer and they gave you the codes- they should also have said what was wrong, do you need a trans or smart box or ???

Normally they would want to sell that work to you

The trans temp sensor is located on the side of the trans. You have to remove teh side trans mount to replace it. Its just a few small boltx holding it in place and a clip.

As long as its running good thats all that matters
When asking for help in the future- state no warranty- salvage
and we can get right to the fix instead of 100 saying dealer!!!

i wasnt able to find a local auto store that would read my codes at all. they said i need to go to an acura specialist such as a dealer but the dealer is charging me $90 and 90 wont go towards repairs if i get it done there. is this at all normal? if i get the codes can someone look them up for me? im at 111k miles so i just missed teh warranty mark, maybe thats why its not covered?

Autozone and Kragen both are able to read acura codes
Whats your car doing now?
Dont worry about the miles- acura is good at helping people out, read trans failure thread for all the details.

yeah i spoke to acuras 800 number today they said if the dealership wont help then they'll see what they can do. i read the failure threads but my car doesnt seem to be acting up at all. no slips or anything unusual. if it wasnt for the light i wouldnt be worried at all. thats why im praying that its just the sensor. i called autozone and they said they cant read teh codes.

a friend of mine whos studying to be a mechanic right now said if i find the sensor and get the pin layout, i can use a multi meter to see if the sensor is getting voltage or not. anyone know where the sensor is and if i can get a pin layout?

can anyone explain what the codes mean if the dealer gives them to me?

the dealer will tell you their diagnosis based on the codes and their exam of the car and years of experience with similar problems.
Its not like a new mystery prob is popping up on TLs now- the patterns are established and known...

You should wait and see if it blinks again. It might not be the sensor faulty. The sensor could be sending out a signal telling that something is not normal. Maybe the question should be, "what does the temperature sensor do?" It could be an indication that your tranny fluid is not within normal temperature, or something is causing your tranny fluid to overheat, or something is wrong with the tranny, such and such.

The alarm went off does not mean the alarm itself is bad, rather it could be your car is being broken in, or it is sensitive enough to get triggered by pets.

I guess we should have asked what the trans fluid looks like and does it smell burned?
That would be a good starting point!

That's a negative in regards to Kragen, my friend. They (or we) can't do it in California. Legal liability issues forced this decision. I know AZ used to do it, but I don't know if they still do.

I know in the Chicago area AZ still reads codes off acuras. I had them do mine when my check engine light came on. They give you a nice little print out of all of the codes and what they mean and a possible solution if I remeber correctly.

Most every where does. The fact that places in cali dont due to "legal" reasons is just beyond DUMB

Not really if you think about it. Liability is a major concern for any corporation. People here sue for anything. I think they would just rather avoid major headaches with customers suing the company because they didn't want to go to a mechanic and get the car professionally diagnosed. (in other words, didn't want to PAY)

If anyone sues and wins based on that then our legal system is a joke.

It is a joke. A clumsy old lady spills coffee on her lap, sues McDonald's and wins millions. I've always known coffee to be very hot and it even says so on the damn cups at most places. Another example I can think of is that idiot judge that sued a dry cleaner because they lost his "favorite pair of pants" for $40 million!! WTF?!?! The courts actually wasted time and taxpayer money on this lawsuit, twice! He appealed when the case was dismissed the 1st time around. They actually let it go through again! So yes, our legal system is a joke.
