cruise control not working

hey, me and my brother were going to boston yesterday and realized that the cruise control didnt work. the green light lights up but it will not set when i hold the "set" button. i checked the throttle body and the plastic thing was good. i pulled the cover off of the cruise control unit under the hood and pulled the cable and it pulled the throttle up so the linkage is all good. i think that its the button on the steering wheel. does anyone know how i can test this or test to see if its the cruise control box under the hood?
thanks

take your left foot and pull up on the brake pedal while driving, then while still holding it try to set it. If it works its the brake switch or mis adjustment. Also check to see if you have brake lights.

Its not the button if it lights up on the dash. Its probably the cruise control motor.

^ He is speaking if the gauge cluster light.

Is that the light you say lights up? or are you meaning the light on the master cruise switch to your left?
