Coolant leak.dont know where its coming from. HELP
Alright,so my car is leaking coolant only a little bit though once i turn the engine on,and have no clue where its coming from. The stealership wants to charge me 115 dollars just to diagnose it. My question is should i go to the dealer or take it somewhere else to maybe get it cheaper?Opinions needed. Gracias.
Im actually doing that right now but didnt know where to look. Hope i can figure this shit out before hand. Im going to pinpoint those. Skirmich youre dope and a big help.Thanks.
And how expensive could a fix get?
Well i was going to look under but i had to put it back down and go take care of some business but anyway it seems to be leaking would say under where the dashboard is in the middle. Idk exactly where.

I'd have to take a peek under my hood to say for sure, but that sounds like a maybe a coolant hose that leads to the heater core might have a hole or might be leaking.
I know when the heater isn't turned to hot, coolant isn't flowing through the heater core, but I'm unsure if coolant flows through those hoses regardless of where the climate control is set to.

Ok,so i went under and looked and all i found was a trace on my oil pan leading up to the front of the oil pan in between this litttle ass crack and i cant tell from there.I cant tell from the top or the bottom. If anybody has an idea of some kind what it is i very much appreciate it. Thanks aziners.
Hey Acira, try first cleaning up the undercarriage of the front motor area. Then run the car up to operating temp, turn the motor off and place a large piece of cardboard under the motor.Leave it cool down and sit for a few hours, then check for where the drip's located at on the cardboard. This will give you an idea of the general vicinity which the fluid may be leaking from.
Trace the residual fluid trail back up to it's source. If it's coolant, check obvious hoses and clamp fittings. May have to remove the top motor's cover to get in for a closer look with a flashlight. Check the heater hoses as well near the rear firewall.
If this doesn't help. then get a new piece of cardboard and turn on the motor and let run. Some leaks will only happen under pressure. Just be careful of getting underneath or in close to the motor while it's running !
leak....
So, the leaking coolant appears to be more evident on the passenger's side of the motor ? Be sure to eliminate any possible hose leaks which may eventually drip down the side of the block to the lower pan area.
If it's indeed the water pump ...... the leak should be more evident at the bottom T-belt cover area on the block's LHS. Wipe the area dry and check it closer. How much coolant are you losing ?
Yeah on the passenger side and im barely losing any coolant and my car isnt over heating. But ima look closer,i got to.I dont think its easy to remove the lower timing cover. Is it?
Fold the cover aside and there is (I think) 3 or 4 bolts that you need to undo to get the lower timing cover off. Again, not sure on the number of bolts but there aren't that many.
Alright ima try that for sure cuz the stealer ship is full of shit.lolBut after I'll get back ASAP.Man,for real,I really appreciate all the help and input from all of you. Much is gracias.
As for the dealer... doesn't surprise me. They seem like they're always trying to increase the amount of billable hours for the service department.
