Coin / Ashtray Removal

Coin / Ashtray Removal
I have a 99 TL. About three years ago coins got stuck behind the coin tray preventing it from closing. While at the dealer for other reasons, I mentioned it and the service rep said no problem, we'll fix it. The service rep said there is a simple trick to removing the coin tray and offerred to show me. I rushed off without learning the trick and he is no longer there.
Well, it has happened again with coins stuck behind the tray preventing closure.
I searched the forum and people talk about removing panels around the shifter to get to the coin tray. This is certainly not the simple trick I was looking for. I figure folks must be talking about a different model or year. My flip down coin tray is directly under the radio which is pretty far away from the shifter. Can some one help me?

removing the whole center console and cointray literally only takes 5 minutes at most. it's not that big a job at all. there are other tutorials on the forum of how to do it so i'll spare you my crappy instructions, but it's definitely not that big a deal to do it.

I have a '03 TL and the ashtray power outlet is loose and rattling all the time. I was wondering if it's similar to your location and if you found an easy way to access it? It appears to be a major job to get at it. Any ideas?

Here's a helpful "how-to" with photos:

This is for accessing the radio but the initial steps are the same.
