Climate Control Vents

Wow, im not sure if this is a problem or if i just dont know what im doing but here goes;
When i turn on the air in my 99tl wether its hot or cold and hit the mode button the displays shows me that the vent should be switching from feet to body to def but the air flow just continues on thru the de-frost on the front. Now the word auto is still there. How do i completely set the climate control on manual so i can change this or is it that the vent control motor is shot? Thanks for your help.....

the auto is always there. by selecting something as far as vent or floor sets it to manual. if it doesnt change where its blowing i woudl say the mixer door/motor may be hung up?
