Climate control error code 88

My 2000 TL refuses to blow any air through the vents regardless of the setting on the climate control. The display still shows a temperature, but no fan speed if I switch to manual control. If I hold down the auto button and the off button I get the error code "88". Does anyone know what this means? I checked all the fuses, and they appear to be o.k. Is this the relay? Please tell me its not the blower motor.

you are misreading the code. 88 is what shows up between the code. The code is the segment of the 88 that lights up between the 88 appearing. Read it right and then post your findings.

If I hold the two buttons down, I get a dash "-" which is the bottom line of the second 8 in "88" which then becomes 88 then alternates back and forth between the dash and the 88.

That code reads as "a problem in the blower motor circuit" Read up on the "transistor" for the blower motors and then diagnose that. There is a part that you can replace by the blower that includes a new transistor. Search that with the "search this forum" option on the main page.

also check the wire harness where it connects to the blower motor. A few have had them burn out/melt.

Looks like it is the transistor. If I jump it accross the "fuse" contacts on the circuit board, the HVAC fan starts up. Why on earth did Acura hardwire a fuse on the circuit board? Why not just protect this component with a normal fuse which can be replaced instead of having to replace a $100 transistor?

is there a part # to this transistor? My blower seem to have just shorted for no reason today.

That's DTC code "K": "An open in the air mix control linkage, door, or motor"
That's the little motor box under the radio area of the dashboard, passenger side. Get down in the footwell and take a look into there with a flashlight - you'll need to pull the carpet out of the way to do anything.
My air mix control motor died, and I had to find a replacement at a junkyard for it. Easy enough fix.
That code is also thrown for a broken linkage, which connects to that motor - or an open in the wires that go to that motor. Also it might just be the climate control unit, according to the manual.
If you've got a decent junkyard near you, try to find the motor and swap it in - if it still doesn't work, try swapping the Climate Control Unit. Obviously keep your receipts in case you need to return anything to the yard :P

If you need it, I can try to grab some pics from my manual on the troubleshooting steps for this. Or if I'm too slow I'm sure someone else here can share those with ya.

Wow thanks for all the info!! I miss forms like this, im glad i signed up!! I used one years ago called lowmotion but i think its gone now....i hate all those fb groups. Anyway off topic....so mines an 08 rdx (not a TL) blows cool air only/ac is fine. The moter is under the dash but driver side. I can see it functioning (pulling/pushing cable) and yes the cable is connected to the heater control valve under the hood. I can manually open the valve and heat works fine, valve has no problems closing on its own (back to cold), just wont re-open. (I discovered this after i replied to this thread) so im guessing the hcv is pooped. Ordered 1 today from dealer ($50) hopefully that solves it. Thanks for the info, i couldnt find anything on reading the 88 _ codes lol

Oh I don't know if the codes stayed the same between the '99 TL and the '08 RDX, but sounds like you're already on the right path! If it's not re-opening, might be an issue with contact on the pins to the air mix control motor? If I recall correctly my '99 had a three pin motor on that section.
And yeah, those facebook groups just aren't the same as a good old fashioned forum : )
