Check engine light/VSA light came on today
Ive had my 2003 TL type S with 137k miles for a few days and these lights came on. Havent seemed to have lost power. Got the codes read and they were P0304, P0305, P0306, P0300, P1399. I know what they all are but what should i do to possibly fix this? Im incredibly pissed that its already happening. My guess is the seller reset the codes or something and then sold it. Other than that i love it, and its an awesome upgrade from my 1993 Legend. My friend recommended Seafoam, never heard of it though and dont know what it is.
thats coil codes right? often multi codes = 1 bad coil
try unplugging the power lead to coils one at a time- while helper carefully notes drop in rpm...no drop = bad coil
seafoam is a 60 year old product that cleans decades of carbon and crud from engines or whatever you use it on,,,better than most brands and multi uses
Can be applied thru gas for `fuel injector service` and thru master vac port for instant results in certain areas,,do both ways,,get 2, under 10$ a can at parts stores and wallyworld
restores like new clean to parts = car runs way better

do you have proof the 105 service was done? water pump timing belt--valve adjust sometimes--egr service (not in book)
many wait till the 105 for spark plugs (believing the book), while ziners know that after 60-70 kmiles a set of ngk iridium ix will improve the running
If the plugs are original Im not surprised at the problems
Pull a few fronts to verify condition
you cant adjust these plugs- they are hi tech and cost about 8 dollars each
accepts NO subsitute brands or plug type

I wish i had proof that the service was done, im going to try and get it from the seller somehow if i find his number. I put seafoam into my tank and the lights went off, three days ago. Today the lights came back on, did seafoam through the tb vac and theyre still on. Guys at autozone think timing belt. Also the codes i got today were p0300-p0306 and p1399.

thats the 105 service,-t belt and water pump
look at the plastic covers to front of engine- ck bolt heads for any signs of paint worn off- like a socket will do when the bolt is removed and reinstalled during the service
NO reason for those covers to be touched otherwise
unless the seller stated the 105 was done--it wasnt
at $1000-1500+++ at shops/dealer, most owners balk at the price,,some even sell the car!
tbelt itself wont throw codes
did you inspect a few spark plugs yet? thats another tell of the 105 completed
supposed to be replaced then, if not done sooner (ziners suggest every 60-70kmiles)
seafoam in gas, 1 can to just under half tank for cleaning strength
then repeat in a few weeks--good for a year after that
In vac port at TB--the one with a squeeze clamp on the hose and a metal nipple exposed when hose removed from TB end,,thats where it goes in -
engine will draw in with 20 inches vacuum force--makes a tornado of the liquid or spray!
engine: 15 minute freeway drive to warmup--apply seafoam per diy and wait 10-15 minutes with engine off
start and do warm up and afterdrive procedure
If you're getting multi misfire codes the plugs may be so old some of the carbon crud is staying behind and fouling them,,after seafoam
seafoam will not hurt good plugs, but if worn past all normal limits,,they may not fire well enough to burn off the liquified crud that occurs with vac port method
Important to do gas tank twice as it gets all the fuel system clean and flowing right

So i did the seafoam can in my tank, then through the tb vac. Check engine light stayed on for a day but now its off. Im gonna check sparks plugs today and see what those look like. Also the seller said they had the timing belt and water pump done very recently. Im starting to wonder if my tranny is going out though, it shifts hard, feels like im driving a manual at times and has gone into neutral twice over the past two weeks. Im taking it to my shop Monday to get a diagnostics run. Any suggestions with that?

Do you know if the trans was ever replaced? If not it's almost certainly near death, IMO. Mine had the same symptoms - slipping from 2nd to 3rd gear - at about 84k or 85k miles. It was fairly intermittent at first but started happening more often after about a month and then the trans codes started popping on the CEL.
Sounds like it was trying to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear and slipped - very common sign of imminent trans death on our TLs.
