Unhappy cheap new tranny

the transmission on my car is going and my mechanic told me to get a new one because my torque converter was messed up. Where can i get a cheap transmission, that works on the car? It is already way past the warranty on it as well. The 6 speed is too expensive? should i just post on the black market hoping that someone has an extra one laying around they would be willing to sell for cheap? Need help here acurazine!

You could try the "Black Market".
But, consider the '06/7 Accord 5spd AT for a donor. Ziner's have been having good luck with this swap.
Check out some previous posts on this, before you go out and buy a cheap used tranny .....that may not be worth the effort of labor involved ?

Use the search button on the accord trans and what it takes to get it to work. Look for one of those to put in.

Use this site to help locate one.

I picked up an 05 oddey trans of ebay for 900 (100k miles), free shipping. Just switched over the trans fluid warmer and the range switch and im actually about to go mount it right now. Only other thing was to bypass the power steering speed sensor lines. Otherwise the transmissions are identicle.

My dad brought it down to work with him on friday and he took it to a transmission shop. They said they would replace the torque converter and do a "basic transmission rebuild" for 1,500 If they found anything else the price could go up to 3,100. My dad made the decision that it would be taken there and it's gonna be brought in on monday and I should get it back by friday

Good luck. My rebuild was supposed to be 1,700 but it turned in to 3,600 and it took almolst 4 months to fix. I am getting it back today finally. I'm not complaining because I went 223,000 on the original tranny but a rebuild will be more than 1,700 I promise.

Dont trust those rebuild shops unless you know them. Like said above, it will definitely over 1,700 for sure. 99% Every service business has their nifty things to get your money. They can break a good part and show you it's broken, they can replace a good part, show you it's bad, then put the good part back and said that was the replacement, you name it. 4 months is a ridiculous time for a tranny rebuild.

4-months is ridiculous - look on your receipt to see if they put in a new Johnson rod.

you were all right, by the time i viewed it, it was too late. My dad is set in his ways and probably wouldn't have changed it anyway. It came out to about 3 thousand dollars total when it was estimated at 1400. This just seems like bad business practice. I really cant imagine that many things in the tranny being messed up

3k is about the price for a tranny rebuild, so dont feel bad. It is just that they never tell you that much upfront, so they can hook you in. As long as they did the rebuild correctly, a couple hundreds difference will worth your time. There are places that will do a lousy job and also wipe out your bank too, plus the downtime.
