Thumbs up CEL told me TPS sensor was bad, but I fixed the issue for almost nothing

So a few weeks ago, the CEL came on and instantly the car started shifting weird. I keep a code reader in the glovebox for these occasions. Code reader was showing a code saying the throttle position sensor (TPS) was giving false readings (2138 if I remember), so apparently the computer went into some "limp-home" mode. I tried resetting it a few times. It would run normal for a few miles then flip back to the limp-home mode (which I would call mildly transmission-destroying).

So the TPS sensor is not removable, you need to replace the whole throttle body*. Around $500. Nice work Acura.

I tried something that I thought might work, but it was a long shot. I disconnected the TPS sensor and put some dielectric grease in the connector. I put it back on, cleared the code. It has been fine since. This was about 4 weeks ago.

So if you get this code, try dielectric grease in the TPS connector. Hope it works for you as well.

*=thanks to this site, I realize you can get a TPS sensor separate for as low as $40 and put it on (you have to use a meter to adjust it properly).

Yeah, sometimes a poor electrical connection or ground can indeed cause problems.
Once in awhile ya get lucky by eliminating the simple and often overlooked stuff.

You sound like you may have driven a VW before...that's their quality statement right there...check your grounds...
