CD Changer Replacement

I have an 02 TL Type S with the 6 CD in dash CD Changer. I am getting the ErE1 error code and cannot seem to fix it. Is it possible to replace this changer with a single CD unit from a 99 - 01 model?

Yes, you can swap units with the single CD units used in the 1999-2001 TLs.

Be aware, however, that the earlier single CD units can struggle with playing burned CD-Rs. I think this problem is especially common with the 1999 TL radios.

There are tons of threads on this topic in the 2nd gen forums. Apparently this was a really hot topic early on.

I know that the single CD player in my 1999 TL hasn't been able to play the couple of burned CDs that I've tried.

from what i've observed with my single cd player, it will only play brand name cd-rs like memorex and sony but the knock off compusa brand cd-rs it will just sound like it's scanning and scanning but no music.

Yes, other forum members have reported the same type of thing.

But some people have had trouble with name brand CD-Rs. And others report that they haven't had problems with any brand or type of CD-Rs.

There doesn't appear to be any type of CD-R or burning technique that works for everyone.

From reading tons of owner reports, it seems that there are unit to unit differences. Some players seem to be more selective than others.
