Catalytic Converter - Engine Light

Need some advice if possible. My engine light came on about 1 month ago and Acura diagnosed it as a cat converter problem and $1100.00 to replace. I have a 99 TL with California emissions and live in BC Canada. They attempted to replace it with a new part but had ordered the wrong one and are reordering the correct part from the US. About a week after they tried to replace the part, the engine light has gone off. My question is, Is there a time limit to how long the engine light stays on, or was there possibly nothing wrong with my cat in the first place and possibly a misdiagnosis from Acura to start with? Any input would be appreciated as $1100.00 is a big sting!

Do you know what codes they pulled from the ECM? Check your work order and list the codes with description if possible.

Pull the clock backup fuse on the passengers side dash fuse panel (that will reset the ECU) If the light comes back on Find a small shop that can read codes or a auto parts store <- (most do it for free) and get the codes read and tell us what the code is. If not your good to go

Thanks for getting back to me. The work order has a line that reads: "118692 Check and Find Code P0420 (Catalyst system efficiency below threshold) Check and find faulty cat need to replace cat."

Do you have muffler shops up there? go have one run a test on the car- they drill a hole and test pressure and flow.
Its not that far to come across and get it done for a few hundred at a private shop
