Car wont start, check engine light blinks?
Car wont start, check engine light blinks?
Car started up fine when i took out from home but after driving about 10-15miles, i park the car. After leaving the car for about 10mins to run a quick errand, i hop back in and attempt to start the car. Car cranks but doesnt start. I also noticed that it said it was 96degrees outside on the thermometer next to the odometer. I know today was warm (about 60 tops) but noway it was 96degrees outside. I pop the hood and got hit with a warm breeze of air from the under the hood. I leave it opened for about 15mins. It cooled off and at this time the outside temperature gauge next to the odometer read 72degrees. I then again tried to start the car, it finally started but gave off a weird noise. Got back in the car and the check engine light came on and started to blink. After idling for about 5mins it went away and the car drove fine home. On the drive home the temperature gauge went back to 56 which should be the normal temperature outside. This isnt the first time this happened to me. The first time it happened both my tcs and check engine light stayed on with the tcs turning off shortly after. I got the car taken in for state inspection right after the first incident and it passed with flying colors so i thought nothing about it. Took a car to the mechanic and it said there might be a problem with my ignition as there was a recall for it. So what do you guys think, whats wrong with my car?? Thanks in advnace.
I don't know how relavent my experience is, but I live in So Cali. I drove up to Yosemite last summer, and while driving around the forest, my engine died and could not get it started. I waited a while and the car started right up. I had taken it into the dealer and they diagnosed it to be the IACV. They replaced it and I've had no problems since. Hope that helped.
Also, another note. I used to own a CRX and the symptoms of a bad IACV from the smaller 1.5 and this one is very different and I was doubting the service advisor when he diagnosed it to be my IACV.

So weirdness with the air temperature display, tcs, and cel.
Are there any other symptoms, and are there any aftermarket electrical goodies on the car?
I have a few suggestions:
Sometimes weird electrical stuff can be caused by bad grounds or loose battery connections. Check the battery connections, and follow the - (black) wire. It should connect to the engine of the car, and there will be a large wire or braid going from the engine to the body. Check that these are clean and tight. Also check every place you can find where a wire connects to the body or frame of the car.
Have the alternator checked, specifically for bad diodes.
Look up the recall, and see if the stated symptoms fit yours.
Let us know what happens.

so i have to pay for the recalls? my car is all stock nothing aftermarket on it at all. this happened again today but no cel or tcs light. i parked the car and it sat in the sun on a nice warm day (about 70ish out) for about an hour. turn the car to on position without starting and the outside temperature read 113 degrees! so i started the car and it gave me a violent startup with a lot of shaking but it stopped after 10mins of idling. where can i go to see the symptoms of the recall? the only recall for my model is the ignition switch, noway it would cause the engine to shake violently, would it?

honestly i have no idea, probly not...go to acura.com sign up on the owner link section..it will bring up ur car and u can look at the recalls it has...click on them and it will show symptoms..regardless of wht ur car is doing, take it to get them taken care of because its free.. and while its there maybe a tech can figure out the real problem

I don't know if that could cause the rough running problems that you're experiencing but at least it would eliminate that as a possibility.
My 1999 TL is on its third ignition switch. The original one was replaced under the recall and the replacement started acting up over the last few months. I would get occasional problems starting and the car would sometimes stall at low RPMs. I also noticed that the dash wouldn't light up in the "II" position unless I rotated the key a bit towards the "III" position.
I replaced the ignition switch myself a few weeks back and all of those problems have gone away.
Also, run some forum searches and see if you can find other reports of similar problems. More likely than not, your experience is not unique.
Good Luck!

cars going in this weekend for the recalls. i went to acura.com and it said my car is only under the transmission recall but i seem to have symptoms of the seatbelt and ignition recall too? also for recalls do i have to pay any cost at all like labor, parts, etc? or is it all covered and does anyone know how long recall service usually takes? couple hours, days? also how do loaner cars work.
just a quick guess from your symptoms is that i would check your coolant level. Also try to notice if your engine fan is turning on and trying to cool the radiator. I'm probably wrong, but it will only take a few seconds to check.
yes i checked, couldnt really tell if the fan was turning on but the engine is pretty damn quiet. coolant levels are fine. the thing is that the car cools off when its being driven. the temperature actually goes down when im driving and goes up while being parked.
