Car shuts off while driving

Both the times this has happened to me I have just been driving regularly. The car just shuts off for no apparent reason. To get it to turn on again I just put it park then turn the key. This has happened to me twice now: once a couple weeks ago and once today. Luckily both times I have been on a backroad with no other cars around.

The only thing I can think of is that I have had my subs up pretty loud both times, but I dont know if that would affect it. Plus I have my subs up loud a lot and it has only happened twice.

Has this happened to anyone else, what are some possible solutions? I really dont want this to happen to me in a busy intersection. Any help would be appreciated.

It's more than likely the ignition switch. Check and see if it has been replaced. There was a recall on it. Search for posts here=lots of them. Common problem. It will only get worse.

try wiggling the key while the car is running.

easy, ignition switch. Happened on my prelude with the same recall, it will start to get worst over time. Normally you can start right back up but after a while it dies more often and hard to start. But, if it has already been done they will be bitches about it. My prelude was taken in for the recall and about 2 years later it happened again. they stated they are going to charge me so I waited a long time until I had to. They ended up fixing it for free for obvious reasons. It was easier on the prelude because you drop the clutch and can start right back up, not so sure about an auto. Go get it fix, its your life.

hi . I own a 99 tl and just started shutting off while i was driving. I have read your threads and cant believe it would be the ignition switch. It seems to be a deeper rooted problem than that. When was this recall?I have owned the car for 6 years and never recieved anything about that recall. Is it still able to be fixed under that recall.

I won't say much to that. It still works like new. But then again, I don't start out fast or beat it. I also change the Tranny fluid every 10,000 miles. It always shifts smoother afterwards. Cleaned the Solenoids on top of the tranny also. They were not very dirty, the screens were still clear. It will probably fail tomorrow for saying this.
