im at a light car seems like somones pressing the gas n letting it go repeatedly..i drop it in neutral...rev goes to 2500 den drops..n keeps this on forever......what to do?....

 

check your idle control valve honda motors are notorious for this.

 

theres an easy way to check this, remove your air intake duct from the throttle body, start you car and let it idle ( this should be done when the engine is cold) there are 2 holes in the throttle port the top one is for the idle air control valve (IAC), the bottom if for the fast idle thermo valve (FITV). plug one of the holes with your thumb. if the idle goes back to normal when you plug a hole replace that part (top hole IAC, bottom hole FITV) NOTE: these parts arent cheap, sorry bro.

 

Its your IACV. Take it off and clean it.

thanks everyone ill take a look at it...even tho the revs stopped on its own..

 

stopping on its own means nothing. What it did was because of the IACV. Do a Search on it and see. Take yours off and clean it up.

 

questions:

so if you look at the two hoses under the carton....one pointing up and one pointing left....


so once i disconnected the left lookin one...liquid came out...im thinkin rusted water....cuz it stunkd like old pipes... is this normal...or is my cia suckin in water?? ... they both look wet...n a huge stench came out of those hoses....

what do i do?


now you're looking at the accel cables....see the srcews...how am i suppose to get those out...my grip pilars dont fit...n a phillips wont work....stupid thing is the bald one came out with ease..but the good one is stuck....ive hit it with several tools hopin it lets som stress go..but still not budging.. i gave up n jus flipped it around with the cable on...

now the iacv screws are stuck even worse...i dont wanna strip it..any ideas?

 

First the hose with liquid in it is coolant and should NOT be hooked up to a cai.

Dremmel and make a straight cut on it and use a flat head.

 

good idea....on the flat head cut....keep it in mind for next time..but finally got it out...NOT the cable but the iacv....here are pics.... ill clean it out in tact...if not then ill use your idea for the five star screw...and now that i opened it..i c its NOT connected to the cia...its its own port....i thought water went the hole in the throttle...


is this REALLY dirty..or normal grime....and special thanks to the hammer that slipped n slammed on my thumb..

damn i really want to clean that spindle on the inside of the black housing....i cant drive now soooooo i cant go to any store....cant do that flat head trick....anything else?? ... pliers are just not gripping....

 

that is one freakin dirty throttle body..

i had this problem but it went away..

it was during the type-s IM/TB swap

 

Soak the lower part in carb cleaner. Then put a dab of wd40 in that area to lightly lube it

I have a question along these lines.

I parked my 99' TL for 3 weeks and when i got back, the battery
was as dead as a door nail. Turns out the RR door was ajar and drained
the battery dry.

I had to give it a 10 minute charge off of another car and then use that car
with the engine running to get the TL to start. When it did, it had a mean
hunting idle (up/down--repeatedly) but it went away after driving it for an
hour on I78. Before it is suggested, I cleaned my IACV about 6 months ago
when the weather was nicer than it is now.

The hunting idle is gone but why did it do this in the first place?

 

The iacv was probably stuck a little. It happens to many who park the car for a while.

 

I was hoping it would be something as simple as that.

Not that the IACV was a tough job but with old man winter on the way
I wouldn't look forward to working on the car, heated garage or not.
