Question Brakes and wear sensor (again)

Hi,

Couple day ago I start to feel, that the brakes on my car (2001 TL) are too loose. I need to push them all the way down and may be little harder push the brake pedal. I wonder what could it be?

Like 2 month ago I get a recommendation from goodyear (when I did an inspection) to replace rear brake pads. After this like a month ago I was on Acura for a 12000 miles inspection, which of course includes inspection of all brake system. And they told me, that brakes are absolutely fine. So I did not change them.

After I looked at brakes, I found that rear brakes need to be changed, about front - I can not say anything without removing wheels (but I may expect that they are in pretty same condition - need to be changed). All rotors are fine.

All the time, I was waiting for a screeching noise, which should warn me if wear are too small (as stated in manual). But I can not hear any sound, when I am braking (all windows was open).

So I wonder should I change the pads now (that's what I am going to do), or wait till I get the noise?

How works the wear sensor - is it a some electrical sensor or it is just a mechanic, which will make a noise by contacting with rotor, damaging it?

Does the sensor part of brake pads or it is built in the brake system of the car, or I need to purchase it separately?

Can I change it by myself? (that is what I am doing on my old Nissan maxima) or there are some tricks with the wear sensor (is there any manual about changing brakes on Acura)?

Braked I am going to install are Akebono ProACT (both front and rear), I can get them around 110$ at local store, are they fine for me? I am not racing, driving 50/50% highway/city. Do not braking hardly (trying to keep the distance). So basically doing average driving. Or I may use a cheaper one (as I understand I can use ONLY ceramic brakes)?

Thank you.

take your wheels off and inspect the thickness of the brake pads. Do this especially if your getting 2 different storries. As for the brake sensor. The TL doesnt have it for brake pads. It does however have the little metal squeeler tabs like most brake pads have. You can use what ever pads you want, just remember you get what you pay for. There are many recomendations on brake pads. Just do a search and you will see.

For some reason the rear pads wear out before the fronts do. Having to push the pedal all the way down is not good which could be an issue with the mastercylinder.

Rears are never supposed to wear at a rate close to the front or more. Rears should last almost twice as long as the fronts. My rears made it to 111k or so
