Brake lock?

Ok, I just change my rear brake pad today with EBC green. Everything went well, except when the mechanics went to the passenger rear wheel to change the brake, the tire won't spin. The left rear spun normally but the right didn't. My car handbrake or footbrake, whatever you call it, wasn't engage. The wheel just won't turn no matter what, mechanics suspected the brake was lock or something with the brake line.

But once the brake pad was on, it still didn't spin but once the car was on the ground. He put it in nuetral to test if any of the brake were lock, and it roll normally. The wheel all roll and I drove it all day and felt no problem with the brake at all no smell or squeak. They felt even better than before. I did test out my car on a slight hill and put it in neutral and it still roll with the handbrake engage.

My question, is it normal for the car to move with the handbrake on. My wheel and brake are acting normally, I can't find any problem and the mechanics can't either, he is a friend so I trust him completely. Driving it, there is no indication that there is anything wrong with the break at all. My right break pad was the one that wore out while the left had alot of padding left when I change the pad today. If the left had a problem with the brake locking, shouldn't the pad have wore out too?

Finally, is this cover under warranty, if there is something wrong with my brake line or brake system. Because no brake light or any sign that there is something wrong is showing. Could it just have been a one time thing and it lock on it own when he jack the car up?
Like I say, car feel perfectly fine and betetr than before, so should I worry?

your not making much sense, you say you went to change your pads, then you say the wheel isnt spinning. then you say half way through the story that one side of your brakes are worn lower than the other..

you need to keep it in sequence here.
If you had one brake wear alot faster than the other, then wouldnt that indicate to you that there is a problem? More than likely you'll be buying another set of rear brake pads soon.

Were the rear rotors pulled off? were the e-brake shoes and drum components checked? were the calipers checked? seized anything?

there is more to checking brakes than looking at pad thickness.

now this so called mechanic probably costed you a set of pads without diagnosing a problem.

if a rear wheel does not spin on our cars..that means there IS A PROBLEM!

True, I might not be so clear. Let me try to be clearer.

My rear brake pads are worn out, this was very noticable as I drove and I could hear and feel vibration and noise. I bought EBC green myself and was going to replace the pads myself but because of the cold and if I was going to do the work, it was probably going to be done outside on the street since I have no access to a garage, I decided to go to a mechanic.

As he changed my left rear wheel, he first spun the tire to see if they spin properly and that there were no damaged to the rotor, caliper or brake lines. I told him I stop driving when I notice the problem. The left rear wheel got it's pads changed without a problem.

Then he went to the right and spun the wheel and it did not spin. He asked if I had the emergency brakes on, which I didn't. So he took off the tires and check the rotor and caliper which all were fine, but the wheel itself just didn't spin, it was stuck. He thought that the brake was lock up.

After he installed my pads, he lower the car and then had it in neutral and check that my ebrakes was not on, it rolled normally down. There was no resistance , noise, vibration, anything that would signal any kind of problem with the brake. But when I had it on the lift, it just didn't spin when you roll the wheel. All the other 3 tires spun normally when you roll the tires but not the right rear.

As we talked, I asked that if the right rear was lock, shouldn't it have worn out just as much if not more than the left. My left pad was worn out with no padding on it. But my right had quite a bit left on it.

I have drove the car since then, and everything still appear fine, that is why I am wondering, could it have just been a one time occurance or there is something wrong with my ebrakes. I had it on a slight slope and had the ebrakes on and the car still roll. I never used it, I just don't want it to lock. If it is lock, can the car still roll? From my experience, the car don't move when you have the ebrakes on, if you had you ebrakes on and drive, you can feel it, with noise ,vibration and even see smoke, which did not happen.

He told me it might be something with the brakes line, and recommend I take it to Acura to get it look at since I bought extended warranty. If it turns out there is something wrong with the brake system, and do dealership charge to take a look at your car?

Beside this one incident, my car is fine.

If you have an extended warranty..theres no charge.
Thank you for explaining better.

Take the car to your dealer..your probably going to need the right rear caliper replaced. What i don't understand, is why couldnt your mechanic do it? That should be a fairly EASY diagnosis for any intermediate level technician.

Well, anyway, i was just typing away.. You probably need a righ rear caliper. The piston is probably seized in the cylinder. From what your saying.. your RIGHT REAR brake pads had alot of meat left.. and the left rear pads were slim..

what's happening was your left rear pads were doing ALL of the rear braking. The piston was seized and not depressing against your pads any farther than it's seized point. Therefore, if theres no force on your right rear pads, then why would they even wear at all?

see what im saying?

take it to your car to professionals, bro.
good luck with it!
