wlecome to the forums

check your brake fluid reservior level. It has a sensor on the cap, if the level is low it can/will throw the brake light indicator on.

Has it always been on, or new symptom? Did you recently replace any bulbs? If so were the replacements of the same wattage?

i will check the fluid tomorrow. didnt even think of that. this is kind of a new symptom. i just replaced the brake light switch and everything was good for a month or so, and now the light is on. would air in the lines confuse the sewnsor at all? i will bleed them when i replace my rotors and pads soon

Then you do have a light out. The tail lights are Dual Filament. Inspect them closely, including the 3rd brake light.
