Blown Shocks? Something is wrong..

I really dont know much mechanics, but my friends say it's my shocks. I have an acura 1999 tl and when it drives through something rocky, it will make this noise that sounds like something is loose and is gonna fall apart. I am not sure what it is and was wondering if the people in the TL forums can tell me.

Thanks

where is the noise coming from, front, back, right side or left. is it a "clunking sound"? if so check the end links.

i think it's from the front... the noise is a rattling noise when i hit potholes or something like that, i can hear it.

i had a similar problem where a piece of my pillowmount actually broke off inside the shock assembly.

i posted a thread about it earlier this year i think it was. with some photos. i could hear the sound high up towards the hood and it wasn't obvious until i took the shock assembly apart. i hope this helps.

here is the thread:

took a little while to load for me though.

If the shocks are original its possible they need replacement. As for the sound it could be endlinks or ball joints.

I had that prolem too with my 99 (had 158k miles then), with me it turned out to be the upper control arm. I suspected shocks too, took it to Acura they told me that it's likely tie rods. Took it to goodyear where they told me it was the joint in my upper control arm but it was easier to just replace the whole control arm. $60 labor. The part was $230 at acura, bought from Honda for $170 for an accord, same part. I have seen some on eBay going for $70, if only I had shopped around! Nice and quiete now, no more rumbling on bumpy roads Good luck.
