Blinking Dash Lights
Blinking Dash Lights
I have a problem which has me a little puzzled. This past winter I replaced all of the dash lights (instrument cluster, a/c panel, fog light switch, cruise/tcs switch, sunroof switch, and clock light bulbs with a mixture of hyper-white and blue LEDs from www.ledautomotive.com and have had no problems with anything until recently. First, the LED that lights the center needle and 0-60mph started blinking (more like strobing), and now the LED that lights the top half of the Odometer is blinking the same way. Sometimes they don't blink and just out entirely. When I pulled the dash back apart to test for solid connections, bad LEDs, shorts etc...I got continuity between both positive and negative of each bulb contact on the board, which I believe is due in part to the fact that everything in that car is microprocessor controlled, but I could be wrong. Has anyone had this problem (with or without LED's)???? Also, does anyone know of an inexpensive source for purchasing replacement bulbs AND THE BULB HOLDERS from?
Also, the SRS came on as soon as I put the dash back together. I think the car is having a meltdown. Anyway, sorry for the lengthy post but I'm pretty sure that Acura is going to charge me to replace all of the LEDs with factory bulbs.

the bulbs may not be making solid contact. You could take them out and clean the surfaces and make sure they are really contacting firmly.
As for the SRS go to the DIY page and try to reset the SRS and see if it goes off.

I had the same problem, this was sent to me in the thread I started a while back...
"LED's are flickering..."
For the SRS problem... I had the same issue after installing the light the first time. Here is a link to the thread I started for that resolution.

If the led are burning out you need to make some changes.
There are several causes of voltage related failures on leds. Some vehicles chronically cause premature led failures. This is normally related to excess voltage, voltage spikes, or high levels of AC current being generated from the alternator. While glass bulbs are slow to react to rapid surges, leds can be destroyed in milliseconds from a sudden spike or chronic high voltage, or excessive AC current from an alternator that has one or more burned out diodes.
If the bulbs are being used in gauges with a dimmer, always set the dimmer to 80% or less. This minor adjustment will make the leds last ten times as long in some vehicles with chronic voltage issues.
If the bulbs are being used in an application with no dimmer, we have a new led protector that can be spliced into the + wire to protect against minor voltage surges. These work great in vehicles that have high voltage, or are prone to voltage surges. They can also help protect the leds from:
1. Switching on the ignition & starting the engine.
2. Changing or disconnecting the battery.
3. Charging the battery with an auxiliary battery charger, or revving the engine hard with a weak or dead battery.
4. Using jumper cables.

Did you have the ignition on at all while removing the dash aor at any part with the cluster out?
Follow the srs reset diy and reset it. If it doesnt come back on your good to go

Well I have to get some new LED's for the dash, I've had a few burn out on some of my switches as well which I believe to be an LED issues as opposed to a short, etc. in the guage cluster. Also, I took the car back to the dealer, and the SRS light was on due to a defective OPDS pad in the passenger seat. This was covered under warranty and they replaced it for free. HOORAY! unfortunatley my LED's won't be all lit up for the meet in VA Beach tomorrow.
