Automatic windows?

Hey im new here and this is my first post. But i recently put in a short ram intake, and i was told to unhook the ground terminal on my battery for an hour or so to reset my ECU to the new air flow. I did that, started my car and now my drivers automatic window won't work? They go up and down still, but the automatic option doesnt. HELP

Welcome to Acurazine!

You might have blown a relay.

You have a 2002/2003 TL.

Nothing's broken, and you haven't blown a relay. You have reset the window memory feature by disconnecting the power. You must do the (simple) learn procedure:

1) Turn the Ignition to accessory [II] position, or start your car.
2) Depress the button down all the way (hold it at the #2 "auto down" position) until it lowers completely.
3) Pull up the button all the way up (holding it at the #2 "auto up" position) until it raises completely.

Your auto up/down feature has now been re-learned. You may use it as before.

Also worth mentioning. As you have reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery, you should perform the ECU learn procedure rather than riding it out and letting it learn that way, or else you may notice a slight negative change in shift quality until it has learned. In an unmodified 1999 to 2003 TL, the learn procedure means:

1) Make sure the car is in Park/Neutral.

2) Start the car.

3) Optionally for safety, engage the parking brake and keep your foot on the brake pedal even if it is in Park. You shouldn't consider this optional if you decide to put in in Neutral for this procedure.

4) Press the accelerator pedal and hold the RPM at 2,000 for 5 minutes so that the computer can re-learn how to control the engine properly.

You may now drive normally.

Do not attempt this learn procedure on the highway for obvious reasons.

As you have a modified intake, I believe the above still applies, but am not sure as I do not know exactly what the intake mods entails (as far as removing vac/bypass lines etc). I can say that if the modification was done properly and everything else is okay, but you have a slightly high idle, slightly unsteady idle, or non-smooth/rough acceleration, as well as a dipping RPM (accompanied with shaking due to the low dipping RPM) after releasing the accelerator pedal, it would be because the ECU has not relearned how to properly control the engine yet.

The order of steps 2 and 3 is not critical. If you're beginning with the window down, obviously pull the switch up to close it. Followed by the down step.

You should reset the ecu after any modification done to your car. Normally removing the clock fuse is an easier way of resetting the computer (no need to reset codes on your stereo and/or navi).

Will doing that method also work on how the computer interprets the shift points on the transmission?

There is no need to reset the ECU for an intake or exhaust etc.... The ECU will automatically adjust for any difference in flow within its ability/parameters. You arent going to gain anything by doing so But if you feel the need to i would do like Nicks2001tl mentioned above and pull the clock backup fuse.

Concerning ecu reset from the manual.

Readiness Codes

Your car has certain "readiness

codes" that are part of the on-board

diagnostics for the emissions

systems. In some states, part of the

emissions testing is to make sure

these codes are set. If they are not

set, the test cannot be completed.

If your car's battery has been

disconnected or gone dead, these

codes are erased. It takes several

days of driving under various

conditions to set the codes again.

If possible, do not take your car for a

state emissions test until the

readiness codes are set. See State

Emissions Testing.

I did the thing to reset the automatic feature and it worked fine. Thank you (: and nothing like low ideling and awkward acceleration has occurred so I'm sure by now its tought itself to get used to the new airflow. Thanks to everyone who posted their input!
