Another Sun Roof Leak

The sun roof tube on the driver's side on my 2000 TL is clogged and not letting ANY water through. What do I have to remove to get to the tube to manually unclog it. I have used 12 guage stranded electrical wire, used a plastic tube inside the sunroof tube with a tire value attached to a gas station air pump - to no avail.

So, what do I have to remove either in the car or out to get to this stuffed up tube. I have already removed the wheel well but do not see the tube.

HELP

you need a wire coat hanger or similar stiff metal- try poking that thru

and a real air tank setup like a shop has- with blower tip nozzle for high pressure air blast to dislodge crud particles
not the gas station pump which puts out a puff of air,,, when you need a big lungfull~

LMFAO, they can't put out shit as far as air, had to use one before, and it topped out at like 65-70 psi (was trying to fill a 3/4 ton's trucks tires), let alone how slow they fill it

but now i did check a lo-pro runflat tire at a truck stop before, and i had accidentally put in like 60 psi (for like a max psi of like 50 on the tire), now that air line had some pressure and flow to it (for those truck tires btw, and must have been linked to the air supply for the pump's themselves)(flying j's iirc, on the west side of salt lake city)

but be careful not to poke the tube itself, since it is plastic afterall, and you could potentially rupture it

I spent about 10 minutes looking under the dashboard but could not find where the tube was running through the car. I took off the inner wheel well, but again, could not find the tube.

I tried again with 12 guage stranded wire and finally saw that the water I added to the sunroof tray was exiting the car. It seems the tube goes through the body and into the frame of the car. I took out 2 small rubber plugs right next to where the water was finally released, but I could not see the tube.

Next time I will try the compressed air instaed of the tire filling machine - you're right, there just wasn't enough pressure.

The driver's floor was soaked. I removed the seat and most of the trim pieces and lifted the carpet to place cotton towels to dry up the area.

through the body already knew that, but as far as the exit, yeah it does not quite come down the fender area lol, but actually comes out around the frame or so, so if you pull the carpet from behind the pedals, you might be able to actually see the tube itself

I meant `gently use the solid wire`not POKE as I typed and forget to put in red ink for sarcasm-
dont use a bendable stranded wire-need something with guts to gently clear the debris loose and away--like welding rod

truck stop air will fill my 125psi tank pretty quick, while 76 only got 50psi after an exhaustive wait while holding filler to tank inlet
But having air at the house is handy enough to warrant filling the tank when needed
Also freaks people out at gas station as you put air in the trunk--oh yeah its one of those new hybrides,,runs on compressed air!! I just have to refill at every other exit~

that would also work too, since it should not damage the hose at all, and have plenty of reach to it too

I am experiencing similar problems with my tl.

My question is though, is it normal for water to fill up where the sunroof is? I can put my fingers by the sunroof when its closed and feel a puddle of water. In addition, my passenger side floor is soaked.

I didn't think water should be getting in there in the first place.

Has anyone experience similar problems?
Secondly, is there anyway to adjust how the sunroof closes? Perhaps it isn't making a good seal against the body of the car.

Any help is appreciated.

first of all, it should not be puddling up there, it should be able to drain away, right away (which is why they have 4 drain tubes, one in each corner; so one always at the lowest point

and as far as the sealing tight goes, not really; a certain amount of water bypassing has been designed into the seal, and with how the water is suppose to drain away right away (if you notice there is a decent overlap with where the drain pan for the sunroof is, and where that seal is, it's catches the water and drains it away)

Hi friesm2000,
thanks for the reply.
So just to confirm, it is normal to see water under the sunroof by the draintubes after it rains?

If that is the case, I guess I will have to look into the drain tubes. Does anyone have a diagram of the draintubes? I am trying to find out where it drains to on the passenger side.

I see it down the a pillar, however I am curious to know if I can figure out where it bends and goes inside the car. I am hoping that might be where the leak is occuring.

Does anyone know if it hits a t junction? Or does the tube go straight out?

puddling water normal NO
just kinda wet and such, cause the majority of the water has been drained away YES

then more then likely the drain tube itself is plugged, which is causing the drain pan for the sunroof to overflow, which is then dripping down the pillar or something right to the passenger floor (or even running on the outside of the tube itself)

then look at my post number #7, and you should get a rough idea of where it comes out from under the car, should be roughly the same for the passenger side

then for a tee fitting, no such thing, each courner has it's own drain tube from the roof to the underside of the car

Found the problem.

Leak in the windshield. I filled a container with water and soap, sprayed around the windshield and opened and closed the car doors to see if I can see any bubbles outside of the car forming from the pressure inside. Found out it was leaking by the passenger side.

Thanks for all the help
