alternator issue

Ok so after having the car shut off, I charged the battery and started it. I noticed the alternator isnt spinning...

does that mean the alternator is fried or is something else wrong? Usually, when alternators break down, does the rotor spin at all but with no purpose or does it not spin?

I am just trying to figure out what I am in store for

The alternator belt is not spinning at all. I already know its not the alternator, i narrowed it down to either the tensioner or the belt itself... but i think if it would be the belt itself id see the damage while rotating it.

i have no idea how this couldve happened since hte car was parked... but whatever, maybe it just happens.

does anyone know if revving the engine causes the alternator to spin faster ?

Also, what drives the alternator belt?

I dont know how the belt isnt spinning at all. Its attached to the crank. With the motor off is there slack in the belt at all.

What do you mean cause it to spin faster?? Faster than what? Normal? Of course revving it will make it spin faster, as the motor is spinning faster so are all teh accessories driven by the belt

the crank pulley

LOL, idk how its not spinning either but its not.

Yes, theres slack with the motor off so I think it might be the tensioner... gotta find out though, im v. interested.

By faster, i was inquiring whether the engine RPM is in any way proportional to final rotation of alternator. Reason for asking is that I am trying to ascertain the reason for the occurance. I was testing out the car, turned on anything and everything electrical, it was working fine. I revved to about 3.5 RPMs... fine.. Then i turned on the car next morning and got the battery light.

Any more suggestions? you seem to know whats up with this...

well if your belt isnt moving thats why the light is on. Its not charging. You need to find out why its not spinning.
And by slack i dont mean a little. How much does it move? can you slide it off the alt pulley?

And DONT drive the car till you get it fixed

Its ok, figured it out. There was a broken bracket on alternator which caused it to shift and fuck up the spring loaded tensioner. Local shop replaced it.

Now, although acura put in the oil jit fix, my tranny is shifting abnormally.... RPMs go high and the shift is hard.

odds are, im in store for new tranny..... u ever heard of aamco doing good work for acuras?

Did you check with Acura customer care to see if you are under the extended warranty on the trans?

You can also register online at acura.com then link the owner experience, you enter your info and vin-
but call too, and get all the info you can from a human- keep them employed!

I would look in the phone book for a local Acura specialist independant shop and see who they use, or they may have a guy who supplies them direct- before I would trust my baby to the double a mco

how common is the problem of the alternator bracket breaking? I've broke my second one today and have to wait for the dealership to open to get another one. The part that keeps breaking is a linking bracket off the top of the alternator to the engine block.
