Advice on transmission fluid change?
Advice on transmission fluid change?
I have 2000 TL with 116kilometres(original tranny). I havent really experianced any probems with the tranny, so should i do the fluid. Its a bit brownish pink. Is there harm if i do a drain? Should i only do 1 quartz(1 litre?). Any suggestions on the best way for it to be done?!
I would do a 3 X 3 drain and fill. Which means drain from the 3/8" square recessed bolt plug at the bottom side of the transmission. Look under your car from the side just in front of your left from tire and you will see it two feet in. Use a 3/8" ratchet with no socket and slap it in there good. You may have to extend the handle or use a breaker bar, as yours will most likely be in there pretty solid. Just under 3 quarts will drain out. Put your plug back in and fill with 3 quarts or the same amount that drained out. Drive around the block a few times shifting through all the gears and repeat 2 more times. This will essentially change your tranmission fluid. Use the Acura/Honda DW-1 transmission fluid only. Period. Buy a case from the dealer and ask for a case discount. I think you have a transmission filter that could be changed at the same time as well, but the most important thing is to get the good DW-1 new fluid in first. I would think your transmission fluid is a bit tired and the you should find that your shifts are smoother after the 3 X 3. Going forward, I would do a 3 quart tranny drain every other oil change. I use synthetic oil for my crankcase and change the oil at every 8k, replacing my transmission fluid with3 quarts of DW-1 every other time I change my oil. My transmission fluid always smells fresh and my shifts are smooth. And don't let anyone tell you to do a flush on a honda.
