AC Quit and Blower On Constantly
AC Quit and Blower On Constantly
I search through the threads to find similar problems; some come close but aren't exactly my troubles on my 99 TL.
First, the blower runs constantly while the car is on. I can turn the AC/heater control unit off, but the thing still blows. The "recycle" button still works at making the blower blow more forcefully. But otherwise, I can't adjust the blower speed.
Which wouldn't be so bad, but the AC doesn't work. So all I get is hot air. A couple of days ago, I could turn the thermostat to 90, let it stay there for a few seconds, turn it back to 60, and turn back and forth about three times. The compressor would kick on after all that. The compressor made somewhat of a whining sound. It's not doing anything now. The heater works fine but not the AC.
I have checked all the fuses and switched out the relays. As a matter of fact, I pulled the fuse to the blower to make it stop blowing hot air. I've had the freon checked: there's plenty.
A friend of mine owns a shop and he said he thought there might be two problems:
1. The AC/Heater Control Unit is bad and needs replacing (This would fix the blower problem and having to oscillate the thermostat to get the AC to kick on)
2. The compressor needs replacing. (for obvious reasons of the AC not working)
Does this make sense? Has anyone had an experience similar to this?
Thanks for the help,
Sam

I have exactly the same problem. Also tons of condensation on my windshield in the mornings that I can not get rid of it. Also it appears that the rear defroster not doing its job well.
This May not mean anything to you but I have the impression that the problems start on same day that the car got out of the dealer from a prolonged repair to fix an engine light on. In many ocasions they worked on the ECU and that is located very close to the A/C controls. Making a long story short I feel it may bee a loose plug or I am hopping just to be that.
