99 TL Tranny issue
This is my first day here people, but so far I feel at home with the amount of info sharing. Anyways, I have a '99 TL with about $150k miles and few days ago the check engine came and i took to the dealership and they read this code...Pull Code P740...and they are recommend that I replace the whole trans. Does anyone here know anything about that code and any resolution to it?

Register and call them. Ask for Replacement=FREE. You probabaly aren't under warranty. I was told by a friend that works for ACURA that they (dealers) will replace any 99 TL trans. free for the asking reguardless of miles or whether the car is over 7 yrs old. Don't ask the garage, Call customer care directly at Acura.

I suppose it doesn't hurt to call Acura customer care since they have covered cars that were out of warranty previously.
But it would be a longshot to get warranty coverage at 150,000 miles. The previous owner of my 1999 TL had the transmission replaced last year at 173,000 miles at an Acura dealer and he paid about $3200 for that.
But, again, it doesn't hurt to ask.
Regarding the P740 trouble code, I couldn;t find much information about it beyond this thread in an Odyssey forum:
http://www.odyclub.com/forums/showth...threadid=12440
And that included the following text:
Honda Service News March 2000
Missing O-Ring Can Cause
A/T DTC P0740
This info applies to all models with A/T except
Passport.
Before you replace the trans for DTC P0740 (Lock-up
Control System) or for delayed engagement after
sitting overnight, inspect the O-ring on the snout of
the torque converter. If it’s damaged or missing,
replace it and clear the DTC. Usually a new O-ring is
all you need to fix the trans.
This may not apply to the 1999 Acura TL transmission but it's probably worth a look.
Good Luck!

Actually I'm going to hear about the verdict this afternnon beause I took the car to tranny specialist yesterday and he is supposed to let me know today. As soon as I find out the verdict I'll post it in here.

Just FYI...my car indeed needed a new tranny because number two was gone and they told if i kept driving like that it would have eventually kill the others. i managed to convince one Acura dealership to go half on it with me since I was way out of warranty or recall!
