3x3 or standard tranny change

I have a '99 TL with 121K. Low I know, and believe it or not, but I only had roughly 90K last July. Put on that many since (commute went up). Done all the scheduled maintenance to include timing belt etc. Always changed the tranny fluid when the schedule called for it, but now the tranny is a little rough. drilled a pothole the other day too, and everything is shaking now, but that's another topic. anyways, do I just do a straight up 3x1 fluid change, or do I do the 3X3?

On another note, where can I pick up a rear view mirror. Mine started leaking last summer. SHOCKER I didn't know it was toxic. Let me know. Thanks

Was it running rough before the pothole? You might also want to describe what you mean by "rough". Slipping? Shaking?

the vibrations in the steering were NOT shaky prior to drilling the pothole. seriously I thought I blew a tire on the damn thing. The roughness I'm talking about is in the shifting. If I don't warm the car up, and I throw it in reverse it hammers into reverse. It;s just not as smooth as it once was in shifting gears either, been a little while since I had the tranny fluid changed though. hope that helps

3x3 change or 3x1 depends what color is your fluid? when was the last time you changed your tranny fluid?

about your rearview mirror, iirc its replaced under warranty but i'm not sure just refer to this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/replacing-tl-rear-view-mirror-619196/

it gives you a direct answer if not then click the search button and type in "rear view mirror exploded" and you will get some threads.

vibrations in the steering wheel could be when you hit that pothole you knocked your wheels out of alignment or your wheels are off balance now (weights fell of wheel). definitely try to get your wheels balanced and then go for an alignment after if the balancing of the wheels don't solve the problem

the hammering feel is a result of the front engine mount going. as matter of fact it went. on our cars the side and front engine mounts are notorious to giving out. so go ahead and replace those if you want to get rid of that "hammering feel".

and since you mentioned "if you don't warm the car up", like your pulling off during warm up then of course you will experience harsh shifting due to the tranny fluid being thick and because our engine computer raises a few extra rpm's to warm up the engine faster.

i hope this helps

thanks lost, that actually does help, so much appreciated. I actually have a set of new tires on order, so hopefully that will solve that problem. how toxic is the rear view mirror shit? I've was cleaning the stuff up with my bear hands when it happened, and it happened damn near 6 months ago. guess I'm not sterile, so it's all good, but damn if I want my kids in there now.

Drain the fluid when it reaches operating temperature. Is it not cherry red? Does it smell burnt?

Take a look at what new fluid looks like and if it's not close to that color or smells burnt, do the 3x3.

I just did mine at 30K and it was almost exactly the same color as new fluid. I just did a 3x1

i would never do a 3x3, i know many 6th gens and all they do is drain/fill, its even recommended by honda. i did a 3x3 on my 99 tl before, tranny died 5 months, then i got this, same thing died again...never did a 3x3 again, and this tranny lasted 5 years and counting.

an out of balance wheel will not make the wheel shake back and forth, you can feel the vibration through the wheel but it doesn't really shake so to say if that makes since to you. But it's good you've ordered new tires because what happened is you broke one of the belts on the tire internally you shoould be able to see a snake in the tread as you rotate it arond. What ever side you hit the pothole with rotate that tire to the rear. You'll feel the shake now in the seat like you would a out of balance tire and the steering wheel will not shake back and forth.
