200K fix tranny or ditch it?

my 02 TLS runs great, doesn't use any oil and has been a great car. The tranny recall ran out at 150K and i bought it with 160k on it. Now 2-3 shift shudders. $3000 to replace tranny~!

Have you contacted your dealer to see if they will help out? Many still get good will coverage to knock the price down.

I haven't talked to a service writer, but have made contact with someone at a local dealer and they said that with the mileage they would not prorate a replacement. I hate that the previous owner didn't get it taken care of while it had under 150k on it.

It only shudders 10% of the time. Any other time it drives perfect. I'm thinking of adding a tranny cooler and replace fluid again and keep driving it.

Save your money on the cooler. It wont help any thing.

If the only symptom is shudder, and you have no chance of warranty, you could try an anti-shudder additive. Lubegard has a product called "instant shudder fixx", as well as a friction modifier/protectant designed for honda applications. They are not some snake oil company. Their products have been specified by oe manufacturers and they are pretty well known in the trans repair community.

I had the same problem a few weeks back , ACURA agreed to help me and pay for 10% which would lower the bill to $4100 + tax.. And I bought the car new went through 1st tranny at 35k under warrenty, 2nd tranny 99K under extended warrenty , and 3rd just went at 167K and NO HELP FROM ACURA.. and i bought car new and 80% of the service was done at the DLR.. I payed $3200 for a rebuilt w/tranny cooler/transtar torque converter/ sonnaz end plugs / and amsoil syntetic fluid! gave me 3/36 warrenty!

I would try to talk with acura to see what they can do. I mean, the dealer should have checked the tranny out before they even sold the car. So, if they can knock the price down by half then go for it. If not, I would actually advise you to do the 6SPD Swap. There are plenty of junk yards with a CL6MT
