2003 TL shaking & random noise

Hello Everyone,

I just recently noticed that the car (03 TL) shakes a little when idle. When driving, the car would jerk time to time.

Also, once in awhile (every 10 min or so) the car makes this noise (when not raining) that is similar to when you drive through a puddle when raining. I believe this noise comes from somewhere under the hood. Another comparison to this noise would be it sounds as if I'm dragging a piece of sandpaper.

Anyone have any idea what this issue might be? Please help!!

To start off on the idle, Do you have a CEL Check Engine Light on ? if so you should get the codes that way we can help you better and about the noise it can be a dragging caliper or a inner fender cover falling off rubbing the tire check that they aren't hanging. hope it helps

ErickUa5,

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have the CEL Check Engine light on. Actually, I do not have any type of warning lights on anywhere near the gauge.

You might be correct that it might be something like the one of the side fenders scratching something. But I'm pretty sure it comes from somewhere in the middle... I might be wrong though.

I'm trying to figure out if those two issues (vibration & noise) are related or totally separate problems.

No problem, one thing I forgot to ask was about the engine mounts have you ever replaced them. Any history on work done to the car would be helpful too.

Thank you all for the great tips.

My goal is, of course, to spent as little as possible to fix this issue. Typically, how much would car repair shops charge for something like this?

Front engine and right engine mounts need to be replaced it seems...

Mounts will vary in costs to buy.....depending on brand and where you purchase them.

Figure at least $200-$300 for parts, and a couple hours of labor to install them. There again these costs will vary, but will usually be cheaper from a local independent shop. Get a couple of estimates to compare. Ask if you can bring in your own parts to save some expense on total repair bill.
