Question 2001 TL Rearview mirror

Bought it new for the wife & it's probably the best car we've owned, but with a surprising imperfection:

The rear window always seemed foggier, looking for a wash. About a year ago, I found out that the wizzbang electronic rear-view mirror is defective. (Rear window is OK).

Approx the top half of the mirror is in the permanently fogged position, regardless of the switch being on or off. Obviously, a defective part, as manufactured.

But, since the warrentee expired, dealer wants $150 (wow) to replace it.

Although this problem was discussed by Tom & Ray -- the Tappet Bros -- I was wondering what this forum has to say.

You might be able to get a free replacement through the manufacturer, Magna Donnelly.

See this thread:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78061

The thread is huge but it contains instructions on emailing Magna Donnelly about getting a free relacement.

With the information in that thread I was able to request and receive a free replacement mirror for my 1999 TL. The mirror in your 2001 might also be eligible for a free replacement.

Good Luck!

Bob

3.2 TL, 2001, Defective Rear View Mirror

A very happy ending, thanks to Acurazine's advice:
Dani Andriacci of MagnaDonnelly, the OEM, responded promptly with a replacement mirror, shipped FedX.

The local dealer, Acura of Oakland (California) installed it .... free.

Contrary to their unwillingness to replace defective mirrors, they now claim they would provide replacement mirrors + installation at no charge.

Great news! Thanks for the update.

I'm sure a lot of TL owners are buying these mirrors.

I'm not sure that I understand your comment. Magna Donnelly is still sending free replacement mirrors out.

Are you referring to the period several months back when it appeared that Magna Donnelly might have stopped replacing these mirrors?

Just contacted Magna Donnelly yesterday. They have already got a replacement mirror headed my way. Thanks for all the posts on this subject. I was probably looking at a $200 repair!
