2000 TL - Trouble Codes and Dash Lights

Ok, so my daughter bought a 2000 TL this past weekend, car runs and drives like a champ, however...

When she went to look at the car, the guy already had the car running, and everything seemed fine, car has 184k miles but she had heard that these cars were good for twice that.

Then we tried to register the car and were told that the car required an emissions test since it was previously registered out of our county. We took it to get inspected and it failed, we received the following error codes:

P0132 / P1129 / P1519 / P0505 / P1259 / P0135

I noticed on the report that it stated "The Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Commanded ON" even though we saw no warning lamps on. That's when I realized that when you turn the car on, only the Battery, Oil, SRS, Seat Belt, Brake, and Side Airbag warning lights illuminate.

No problems with the lights behind the gauges, headlights, taillights, brake lights, or the turn signals. However the light in the console where the shifter is as well as the dome light do not work. I saw that some people have similar problems when they installed after market sound systems, however this one appears to be stock and works just fine.

I removed and inspected each and every fuse in all three fuse boxes (driver side, passenger side, and under the hood) and am now at a loss. Anyone have a clue as to what could be the source of the problem? Find it hard to believe that so many light bulbs could be burned out, but I really don't want to pull the instrument cluster if I can keep from it.

Welcome sognametal!

My first thought is something Electrical.

P0132 & P0135 O2 sensor
P1519 IACV Valve
P0505 Idle control system fault
P1259 Vtec system malfunction
P1129 Map sensor

Replace the o2 sensor, clean the Iacv valve first and then reset the ECU by pulling the clock fuse. Hopefully those repairs will clear the codes. SO many codes though at once. Check some of the grounds especially the one that comes down from negative battery terminal to its ground.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the response, I've already replaced both O2 sensors and went ahead and replaced the EGR valve as well since I know with so many miles it's not uncommon for that to fail. The IAC and MAP sensor were next on my list, but without being able to verify the status of the CEL makes it difficult to know if I've cleared the errors without taking it to AutoZone. I'm good with the mechanical side, these lights have me scratching my head.

If ya replaced the O2 sensors and EGR valve, ya may wanna consider cleaning the TB intake, IAC valve, and the EGR passageways. Then clear the codes and take the car back to Autozone and have the codes read if present.

With the lights, it simply could be a bad bulb.....connection or fuse ?
It'd help to have the actual diagram for the electrical circuit schematic to trace the wiring.

Yea you have a burnt out bulb if it doesn't come on when you start the car and the data list is showing that it's commanded on then yea it's most likely burnt out and as far as thoes codes go clear them and see what ones come back. Sum body could have had sum thing unplugged and turned the key on and it set a code. If your map sensor was bad the car would run like straight poo poo and would not stay running. If ur saying it runs and drives fine and ur throwing a map sensor code them that's most likely what happened

Check the main ecu ground for corrosion or it might not be bolted down, its on the thermostat housing.
Also these codes could have been set by somebody poking around disconnecting sensors so I would suggest resetting the codes and start fresh.

Vtec code could be mean that the engine is low on oil or wrong viscosity or simply disconnected.

Thanks Nicks2001tl for providing the code definitions.
