2000 TL - Pass. seat makes thumping noise
A while back the battery drained itself, while the front cig. lighter outlet kept my Garmin device on when the car was turned off. I figured some relay wasn't letting go, so I decided to replace a couple relays including that one. When I got the old relays out, and disassembled them and looked at them under a microscope, I saw the the cig.lighter relay contacts slightly discolored from overheating, but it still "looked" pretty good. Oh well, another mystery.
While I was working in that area behind the glove compartment, I was kneeling outside the pass. door and leaning on the pass. seat bottom cushion with my left elbow. When I was leaning, the seat would wait 5 seconds and then make a thump, and then repeat. It was a pretty quiet thump, but it was not just a little click. I said to myself, "WTH?"
The seat location was as far back in the tracks as it would go. I then motored the seat forward just a tiny fraction of an inch. It doesn't thump in this position. This seems a bit odd, and I was wondering if anybody ever experienced this particular problem.

thats part of the passenger OPDS occupant position detection system
there is another weight sensor in the upright seat section
Its purpose is to figure out if your drunk buddy is leaned against the door glass, or leaned forward looking for something, or has the seat layed way back, lowridin
IF there were a crash and airbag deployment while they were in any of those positions, DEATH IS LIKELY or at least very serious injury
the SIDE airbag will snap their neck as it deploys
notice when you place an object on the pass seat, kfc, books, groceries,,a Yellow light comes on the dash--meaning the system found a weight imbalance and has turned OFF the side airbag
