2000 Acura TL Clean Solenoids and Replace ATF Filter?

Can anyone link me to the thread showing how to clean the solenoids and where the external ATF filter is? (i thought only the 04+ had these?) My transmission is shifting really hard and starting to slip a little so I was going to try the few quick fixes and hope it helps make it last a bit longer. I've already tried searching these forums for well over an hour and can't find the threads showing the cleaning.

The external filter is below the the rear side of the battery. 4 10mm bolts hold the bracket on to the spin off filter. Once you get to the filter you need if I remember correctly a 17/18 wrench to take it off. Transmission filter replacement is also in the diy section with good instructions.

You can try a few things before replacing the tranny
~Can of lubegard
~3x3 flush
~1/2 can of transtune before the flush (no need for cleaning the solenoids if you go this route)

Note: Try lubegard first only 14 bucks.

Thanks, I've tried the 3x3 flush already, and saw the lubegard in some posts so already ordered that and hopefully that should help I'll go try to change the filter tomorrow or so. Is that the only filter to change? I saw in some other threads there are 2 solenoid filters or something?

Btw, where is the DIY section? I'm new here and thought the Problems & Fixes section was it, is there another area I'm missing?

DIY section is on top of the 2nd gen homepage.

Only 1 external filter. Solenoids have screens.

I'm still not seeing the DIY section? Are you talking about those sub-forums?

Yes, that is the filter.

As for the solenoid screens, I don't believe there is a DIY but it is pretty straight forward.

When you remove the solenoid, there is a rubber gasket and there are two screens connected to said gasket. One is an oval and one is a circle. Be very careful when trying to peel the gasket off. As to how to get to it, I'm afraid I can't be of much help, but I'm sure there are those here that know how. Hopefully they'll chime in.

Best of luck. I assume you also have a CEL with the P0740 code? Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but usually when that happens it's the beginning of the end. Please keep us updated.

I haven't checked it with a mercedes specialty shop yet, and I'm assuming the CEL won't show up on an ODB2 scan? I don't have any check engine light or D5 flashing

Any CEL would show up on an OBD II scan. When ever the computer detects a fault, it throws a code making the CEL come on.

If your CEL isn't on, the computer hasn't thrown a code.
